As I laid in bed that night all I could do was toss and turn. Whenever I was around him I couldn't think straight, everything that made me who I was became unraveled, it was like a blind man seeing for the first time. Marcus Riley always had that effect on me. Ever since sixth grade I made it a point to mess with Marcus, not in a bad way...... it's like when you have a crush on someone you always went out of your way to say some slick shyt to them or touch them in anyway you could. It wasn't until our sophomore year that I realized my true feelings for him.
2001
As me and my big brother Khalil walked through the hall on the first day of school, I was just coming to terms with my sexuality, during that summer I fucked a few dudes and felt it was better than pussy. But I didn't think of myself as gay or bi, I thought of myself as a universal lover. I looked over at Khalil, a person I idolized above all others and smiled, just seeing him happy made me happy cause my bro deserved it. All the girls were pushing up on us the only two sophomores to make the varsity team in both our respective sports. Yeah there were some cute chicks but I couldn't focus on any of them because they had just walked in the building. Tonya was bad in her own right but it was Marcus that caught my eye he walked in like he owned the building and truthfully if he wanted to own it I want to be the one to get it for him.
"Damn lil Marcus done grown up." I said admiring him openly as we walked away from all the girls. Khalil looked at me and smiled.
"He aight man but there's plenty of dudes here that look better than him." Khalil said tossing the football in the air and catching it.
"Nah there's something special about him....." I said as Marcus disappeared down the hall the sun shining in front of him, giving him a heavenly glow.
"You want me to talk to him for you." Khalil asked.
"Really! Thanks Khalil bro I owe you one." I said getting excited.
"Actually it's three now." Khalil said smiling. "But ayy I'll see you at lunch." Khalil said running to his class.
A couple months went by and still no word from Marcus I kept bugging Khalil to know what he said but Khalil kept pushing it off. I was going to approach him myself but I was scared so every time I was around him I would be nervous. Finally towards the end of the school year I decided that I'd step to him, I waited til after school was over and I found Marcus's older brother Marsean and asked him where he was.
"Have you seen Marcus?" I asked Marsean.
"He said something about helping Khalil study, so there probably in the library. And if you see Khalil tell him we got a team meeting so he'll have to cut that little study session short."
"Thanks man." I said as I took off running.
"Wait what do you want with Marcus?" Marsean called after me.
"I love that nigga." I said turning and running to the library. I got to the library and noticed how empty it was I walked in and I found Marcus and Khalil sitting in a corner where nobody could see. I started to approach them when Khalil grabbed Marcus's hand, I watched as they looked into each others eyes, and how Khalil leaned in for a kiss. My heart broke and I felt the tears build in my eyes, I felt betrayed by the one person in this world I trusted. I quickly wiped my eyes and cleared my throat. They both looked up scared and Khalil couldn't meet my eyes.
"What's up Enzo." Khalil said quietly.
"Umm I was told to tell you that ya'll are having a team meeting." I said looking at the floor. Khalil cleared his throat and stood up.
"Mar' I'll call you later aight." Khalil said kissing Marcus one more time, Khalil walked over to me and stopped right by my ear. "We'll talk later bro...." Khalil said before walking out leaving me there with Marcus.
