I got to the hospital expecting the worst, I found out what room my mother was in and rushed to her room. When I got in there was a tall dark skinned dude sitting in the chair next to my mom, I'm guessing that was her 'husband' the dude looked at me, stood up and started walking over to me but I moved around him and looked at my mom. She was sleep but otherwise looked fine which was a good thing I sat next to her and grabbed her and hand she opened her eyes and smiled at me.
"What's going on, why are you in here?" I asked. She didn't say anything but she gently squeezed my hand and smiled. I felt sick, even though I didn't have the best relationship with her she was still my mom. "Delilah what's going on?" I asked again.
"I'm dying Khalil.... I have Chronic Kidney Disease which basically means my kidneys are failing. I knew for a while now that I didn't have much time but I wanted to see you and Devin before I.... you know?" She said still smiling.
"Delilah, please there's no time to beat around the bush ask him." The dude said from behind me. I looked at him and he looked back at me.
"Who are you and why are you even here? Kick rocks and let me talk to my mom...... Delilah who is this dude and what is he talking about what do you need to ask me?" I asked her.
"Khalil, Freddy is my husband....... and he feels that I should ask you, well there is a way to save my life Khalil a kidney transplant but the kidney has to come from someone with my DNA, a brother or a son." She said looking in my eyes. Then everything started to fit into place, my sadness was slowly being replaced with rage.
"Is that why you wanted to come back into our lives so you could ask for a kidney from me or Devin? So all that shyt you told me was just a way to soften me up and get me to let my guard down?" I asked quietly.
"Boy this is no time for you to get emotional your mother is dying now either you or your little bastard brother are going to man up and save my wife." Freddy said looking at me. I jumped up out my chair a choked dude up, I was literally so pissed that I had him off the ground.
"Khalil please put him down, Freddy is just worried about me. Khalil I didn't contact to you just for your kidney I really want a relationship with you and Devin. But I can't do that if I'm dead, I know you can't give me your kidney because you play football I was just hoping maybe you could ask Devin too...... Khalil I'm not ready to die." She said was tears swelled up in her eyes. I saw the pain in her eyes and truthfully I didn't give a fuck.
"You know what you could die tomorrow and I wouldn't shed a single fuckin tear..... the fact that you are just asked me to have MY little brother give up a kidney to you let's me know how selfish and cold you really are. You never gave a fuck about me or Devin, you only care about yourself, and if I have things my way you'll never see Devin again." I said releasing Fredrick. "Have a nice life Delilah." I said walking out the room, my anger went beyond words. I drove back to Marsean's house and walked inside to find Marcus sitting on the couch waiting for me, I walked over to the couch and sat next to him.
"How's your mom Khalil?" He asked, and it was like opening a floodgate everything I've been feeling for my entire life came pouring out. I've never been the type of dude to cry but I couldn't hold it back anymore, I broke down and told Marcus everything that happened, he didn't say anything he just pulled me to his chest and let me cry.
"Why doesn't she love me Marcus?" I cried.
"Baby look at me...... some people are only capable of loving only themselves. But you have people that do love you Devin, Cam, Enzo, Tonya, Legacy and even Marsean and I'm in love with you Khalil maybe you need to stop wasting energy on the people who don't and focus it all on the people who do." Marcus said wiping away the tears for my eyes.
"I want to hate so bad Marcus but I can't even now after everything she's put me through I still fucking love her and she could careless about us." I said. "Marcus I know we were supposed to stay for another week but I can't stay in this city anymore. I'm sorry but I'm ready to go back home." I said looking into his eyes.
"Khalil the whole point of this trip was for us to spend time together, we can do that anywhere so if you're ready to go back to Texas then I'll go pack our bags we can leave tomorrow." He said standing up, he looked at me one more time and started to say something but didn't.
The next morning we said goodbye to Tonya and Marsean and headed back to Texas. I was still numb from everything that went down with my mom that I didn't even notice the plane ride or the ride back to my house, we pulled up and I walked inside expecting a mess but it was spotless. I walked around and saw Devin, Cam, and Legacy all sitting around the pool laughing. I walked out back and when Devin saw me he jumped up and smiled, that alone made me feel a lot better.
"Damn we weren't expecting you for another week, welcome home bro." Devin said hugging me. I knew I had to tell him what happened with Delilah.
"Ayy Cam, Legacy why don't ya'll go get dressed I feel like taking ya'll out tonight." I said forcing a smile. They wasted no time jumping up and running inside, Devin was about to follow them but I stopped him. "Dev sit down I need to talk to you, about something."
"What's going on Khalil?" He asked looking at me confused.
"Devin, Delilah..... our mom is dying, she has something wrong with her kidneys and if she doesn't get another one then she won't make it. The thing is she wants one of your kidneys, that's the only reason she tried to come back into our lives. I'm sorry." I said.
"So what she only wanted to see me because she needed a kidney?" Devin asked.
"Honestly I don't know Dev I mean she seemed so genuine when she said she wanted to see you, made that was just part of her act. But if you still want to see her it's your decision." I said.
"I'm good Khalil if she only wants me for my kidney when I don't want to meet her, besides we don't need her as long as we have each other then we're good......" Devin said.
"Don't forget Marcus, Enzo and Cam and I guess Legacy." I said smiling. "Alright now go get ready we're leaving in ten minutes." Devin rushed inside and I was left staring at the water, Marcus approached me and sat on my lap.
"How are you doing?" Marcus asked me, and once again I had to force myself to smile.
"I'm good let's try and have fun." I said standing up.
For the most part hanging out with them actually did take my mind off of Delilah, first we went go-kart racing, then we went and played basketball, the sun was setting when they finally decided they wanted to get food so we went to my favorite restaurant BJ's and by the time our first dish got there I was having the time of my life. Everyone seemed so at ease and that alone made me happy.
"Marcus baby, I'll be back I'm about to go to the restroom." I said getting up and walking away. After I finished taking a piss I was washing my hands when I heard the door opened I didn't pay it any attention until I looked up and saw a pair of darks eyes staring back at me. "What the fuc..." I tried to say but couldn't because Roseline wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me.
"Oh Khalil I've missed you so much." She said smiling devilishly. "We have a lot of catching up to do."
