"WOAH! Relax Khalil it's just me." Kadeem said pulling the hood from his head and staring into my eyes. My heart was pounding in my chest and I had realized I was holding my baseball, once I got over the initial fear the anger began to set in.
"What are you doing here? Matter fact how did you get here?" I asked my anger starting to reach critical levels.
"To answer your second question Camden let me in and...... Khalil I feel like this would go a lot better if you put the bat down." Kadeem said eyeing the bat in my hand. I walked over to my bed and laid the bat across it, I told Marcus I'd call him back in the morning and looked at Kadeem. "I'm just glad you didn't have a gun or I really would've been fucked......" Kadeem said trying to make a joke.
"Yeah well I've never been a gun person but I'm starting to think I need to reconsider that, now what are you doing here and where's Cam?" I asked.
"Cam went back to school and as to what I'm doing here well I really can't tell you..." He said, I opened my mouth to tell him to get out but he hurried and finished his sentence. "But I can show you follow me." He said walking out the room. I debated on whether or not I should follow him, and thought fuck it, he didn't say anything as he grabbed a bag and walked into the backyard.
"Look it's to late or early or whatever to be playing games so just tell me why the fuck you're here so I can go to sleep." I said turning the lights on. Kadeem didn't say anything he just reached into his bag and pulled something out and tossed them to me. "What is this?" I asked holding up the small bag he gave me.
"Boxing gloves put them on, Khalil I think the problem that you have..... that all of the Cunningham men have is we've never been able to speak our feelings especially when it came to our fathers. So I'm going to do the same thing my dad did with me." He said putting a pair of gloves on his hands. "Just try not to fuck up my face too bad, I really don't feel like explaining to my wife about what happened." Kadeem said smiling.
"Man I'm not about to fight y....." Before I could finish my sentence Kadeem punched me in the mouth.
"Come on Khalil I didn't raise you to be a bitch." He said hitting me in the face again.
"That's the problem Kadeem you didn't raise me at all......" Once again he punched me again, honestly it didn't hurt but there was something about being hit in the face that pissed me off. I threw the gloves to the side and rushed in.
I don't know how long we fought, but I was shocked that his old ass lasted as long as he did and that he could fight. I was pretty sure I was going to be pissing blood from all the body shots he gave me, and I was pretty sure I was going to have a few bruises from all the times I got slammed on the ground, but as bad as I was he was worse, I honestly tried to hurt this man, when we were finally getting close to our limits I went in for one final punch but he surprised me with a left hook knocking me on my ass. I laid on the ground watching the first signs of sunlight make their way into the night sky. Damn I just really go knocked on my ass by an old man. Kadeem limped over to me clutching his side and reached his hand out to mine, I stared at it for at least twenty seconds before giving him my hand he help me up and together we limped into the house. We got inside and Kadeem slipped gingerly onto the couch while I walked into the bathroom and grabbed a first aid kit, I sat next to him and tried not to look at him but every time my eyes landed on him he had a smirk on his slightly swollen face.
"What's so funny?" I asked trying to find anger that wasn't there.
"You got a nice right hook." He said laughing then grabbing his side.
"Yeah well it's got nothing on your left." I said laughing as well, then it was quiet. "So what was the point of all that?" I asked rubbing an alcohol pad across my bleeding knuckles.
