Despite the circumstances I was glad to be back in Ohio, I flew back with Enzo, Devin, and Marcus while Legacy and Cam went back to Miami for the week but they would be flying to Ohio with Kadeem tomorrow for the funeral. As I laid in bed all I could think about was the funeral and to be honest I didn't really care, if it wasn't for Devin taking this so hard then I wouldn't even be going, I needed to be there for him. I know it sounds harsh but it was the truth, Delilah had never been there for me since they day I found out about her death I tried to remember one time she was there for me and couldn't, she wasn't there when I graduated high school or college, she wasn't there the day I got drafted, hell I don't think she ever been to any of my games pee-wee, high school, college, or my NFL games. The only thing she's ever done for me was give me life and for some people that may be enough but honestly for me it wasn't, she's never shown me or Devin love the only time she wanted to be bothered with us is when she wanted something, so I couldn't feel bad because the way I saw it was I didn't have a mother.
"Khalil?" Enzo said knocking on the door and walking into the room. We were staying at his mother's house and honestly I felt Enzo's mom was more of a mother to me than my own mom. "Ayy Devin and Marcus just went to the funeral home to make sure everything was ready for tomorrow. How are you feeling?" Enzo asked sitting on the bed next to me.
"Honestly Zo I wouldn't even be here if Devin didn't want to come. It feels like I am going to a strangers funeral instead of my own mothers. And truth be told I'm not even sure I want to go tomorrow." I said laying back against the bed.
"Khalil I know you and Delilah didn't have the best relationship but that's still your mom. If you didn't at least get to say goodbye you'll probably regret it for the rest of your life." Enzo said looking at me.
"Enzo when we were little how many games did your mom come to?" I asked sitting up and looking at him.
"All of them...." He said quietly.
"And when you were in college how many games did she come to?" I asked.
"She came to some of them. I'd say more than half, but what's your point?" Enzo asked.
"Zo Delilah never came to a single game ever. We lived right around the corner from the school and she still never came to one game. I went to college in the next state over and she never came to see me play, you went to college eight hours away and your mom still made it to most of your games." I said.
"Okay but Khalil..... your mom she... she had issues, that she needed to work on. But she still your mot...." Enzo started to say but I cut him off.
"Lorenzo I get it... she's my mother, but I don't know her she a complete stranger to me. I know she wasn't the worst mother in the world, but the truth is I can barely sit here and say she was a mother at all. Hell the other day when I was planning the funeral with her bitchass husband some random woman came up to me and asked me what was my relationship with Delilah and when I told her I was her son, she said she didn't even know Delilah had kids because she never talked about me or Devin." I said standing up.
"I get what you're saying bro, but you still need to go if for nothing else than to be there for Devin. He's taking this pretty hard and he's blaming himself, he feels like if he would've just gave her his kidney then she'd still be here and I know you don't have any feeling towards her but Dev has a lot of things he feels are unresolved, he's going to need you." Enzo said.
"I'll always be there for Devin and Cam........ and you. We've had our ups and downs but you're my brother Zo. But can I ask you something why didn't you go with Devin to the funeral home?" I asked.
"Because like you said we're brothers and I know how stubborn you can be I just had to make sure you weren't going to try and skip the funeral, I didn't want to have to put my foot up your ass." Enzo said smiling.
