The small 4-person band which consisted of a violin, cello, piano, and harp performed as one just to add some mellow music into the gigantic church. Although the band had no sound equipment to amplify their soothing music, the church had outstanding acoustics and the music manages to fill every corner of the building. However, though their music was calming, it was far from uplifting. The tone of their music was melancholy. It was the type of music one would play for death to dance to, for death to know that he was accepted here.
After all, death already made its presence known.
That's what this event was all about. That's what everyone was gathered in the church for.
We're all in this church to mourn for death's latest victim.
The air may've been stench with bitter sadness and agony but the architecture of the elegant chapel was the only thing that gave some light to all of the darkness. The towering chapel that must've been about 10-story high was created with cemented grey bricks. Its front door was made of dark oak while the black metal hinges gripped it against the walls of the church while sprawling through the rest of the door, holding the wood together and giving an intricate design and medieval style to the rest of the building. The door itself was about six meters high. Apart from the traditional windows that gave light to the enormous church, colorful stained-glass windows decorated every side of the chapel; not only did it give color to the ancient building but with also showcased its art for all to see.
But my attention was never on the structure of the building nor what it held. I was in a daze. I stared before me, eying the stairs that led up to the alter. However, my vision was partly blurred due to the black sheer fabric of the veil that covered my face. The veil itself was connected to a mini top hat that was clipped to my hair.
The hat might've been a little much but it was nothing compared to Bell's extravagant one. The hat perfectly sat on Bell's head, even with her big curls; it was adorned with large feathers that stuck out from the sides and the headpiece was trailed with a heavy veil that even passed her shoulders.
Even when our hats differed, our attire was almost alike. We both wore dresses (in contrasting styles might I add), heels, a coat, and gloves.
Yet, we weren't the only ones that matched each other with black. Everyone that sat in the room was pretty much painted in black. No other color was shown amongst the mass of people around us.
It was only appropriate to wear this color for mourning.
The chapel was crowded with people I did not care to know, aside from my family and my friends and their family. The very few people I did care about were seated close to me as my Aunt Rose was to my right and Bell was to my left. We sat amongst each other as the funeral proceeded.
I was grateful for their support beside me though... I wished Sebastian was with me. I really needed his support right now, but him and churches do not mix well. It's not like if he steps foot inside a church he'll blaze into a burning inferno then turn into nothing but a pile of ash; it's just he'd rather not be around an environment so... holy and pure.
