"I didn't actually think you could get this far in your "little quest for glory"," Sebastian comments.

With the same scowl stuck on his lips, Claude retracted his hand from my chest, pulling his arm to his side, then spins around to see Sebastian with his own eyes.

Yet, without his hand on me, I could still feel his sickening touch lingering in my body. The eerie sensation made me question whether or not Claude did retrieve my soul since I felt so uneasy, but I suppose that could be due to another near death experience.

Even after staring at the man before him, Claude's grimace deepens, showing his distaste with Sebastian ruining his plans.

This only made Sebastian smile more.

"Just like when we were children, you always gave up at the first sign of defeat," Sebastian continues, "And in all those times, I won." He moves his hand to his chest, gesturing to himself, before lowering it. "However, I'm surprised you'd let CL dive into our centuries-year- old memories. I suppose a poor soul must always dwell in the past."

My mouth fell slightly agape and I let out a sharp breathe.

So he was there when I met with Claude. I was never really alone even when I didn't suspect anyone following me. That explains so much. It surely explains as to why I saw a memory that didn't involve Claude but, rather, Sebastian. He was the one that pulled me to that memory. I've should've understood it sooner. Even though I was in harm's grasp, he will always be there to look out for me, from the past all the way to now.

No matter what happens to us, I'll never be alone. My little demon is always keeping a close eye on me.

Then, I overhear Claude lightly chuckle.

My eyes focus on him, though his back was towards me.

"Times have changed, Sebastian. I thought you'd notice. Only now, it's time that you begin to experience the pain I've felt all those years. You'll lose again, but only this time, you can finally see how I killed Anastasia. I'm sure CL won't react any differently."

I revert my eyes from Claude and onto Alois after noticing a slight movement in the corner of my eyes.

Now standing before the crates, Alois's eyes were enlarged and a hand was hovering before his mouth. I can only assume that he never knew this secret before, but it didn't take him long to figure the scenario out. He definitely loves some juicy revelation.

"However, the only difference is... CL won't come back from death." I didn't need to see his face to know that he was smiling. "I'll win from here on out."

Without another second passing, Sebastian says, "Not in this lifetime."

Suddenly, before my brain could process what was happening in front of me, I felt a gush of wind blasting past me. Then, instead of being faced with Claude's back, I'm met with a pair of ruby eyes staring back at me.

I didn't even notice a loud thud sounding off in the distance.

Sebastian was quick to protect me.

With my mind still puzzled at the sudden attack, I simply stare at Sebastian in awe.

Next, I'm taken off my feet and Sebastian held me in his arms, bridal style. He doesn't waste any time to move me to safety; most importantly, keeping me away from Claude. He crosses the roof and huddles in between the bundle of wooden crates and stacks of wood that littered that rooftop of the renovating building. Soon after, he sets me down beside a large box.
