I blow off the last two periods after walking in and seeing Satan's spawn himself sitting behind the teacher's desk. No point adding insult to injury. I did stay on school grounds, though, on the football field. It was eerily quiet without the boys tossing the ball back and forth and the girls swooning over their muscles. The only other people here were the stoners that were either sobering up, smoking, or trying to get the smell off of them before going back to class. Luckily, I had my book to pass the time.
Since dating Alex, I had put down Romeo & Juliet and not picked it back up until now. I was at the point where Romeo is informed of Juliet's death. If I had to, I would say that I was Romeo and Alex was Juliet. I mean, Romeo thought Juliet was going to die and did everything in his power to be with her or at least see if it was true. Nevermind, bad comparison.
I don't notice that both bells have gone off until the football team walks out onto the grass with their jerseys on and other equipment. Alex is among them and I wave to him. He doesn't notice until Cameron elbows him in the arm and points. He grins like the Cheshire cat and races towards me. He almost makes it until a whistle blows and he has to reverse.
I scan the area and notice that his father is sitting in the stands too. Only a couple rows behind me, and I don't think he notices me from the back of my head. The only reason he doesn't know it's me after I looked at him was his head was in his phone. I quickly pack up my things and exit the stadium, just Adam's energy is driving me insane.
On the walk home-- Chyna left without me and I can't have Alex give me a ride with his dad there-- I leave a message for Alex giving him a very specific plan to murder his father as a joke. A couple cars pass by me quickly, and a couple drive slowly. It only takes a total of twenty minutes to walk. In three weeks I won't have to worry about it because school will be over. Prom is tomorrow night, but due to certain circumstances, I think I'll have to sit this one out.
I walk into an empty house and my mother's neat scrawl giving me directions for heating up some of the leftovers in the fridge. Apparently, my parents are going for date night and won't be back until tomorrow. It's gross just to think about it. They know that I hate being home alone, so nights like these are usually when I would be able to have a friend or two over for the night.
I text Chyna, but she is too busy with Cam. Emily is out on a date, and Laurie is throwing another party. She invites me over, but with the stuff happening with Jake and the first party I went too, I should probably not go. I considered asking Alex to sneak out, but after seeing what his dad was capable of, I didn't dare.
I hear three hard knocks on my door. I jump and lightly pad over to the noise to peer through the hole. I see a familiar head peering down at the welcome mat. What in the hell was Jake doing at my door? I open the front door and he whips his head up. I can see the regret in his eyes from even coming here. "Is Alex here?"
"No... He's not allowed to see me."
"Oh. Can I come in?"
"Jake I don't think that's a good idea."
"We need to talk Cydney," I sigh and step to the side so he can pass. He waits for me to shut the door and follows me into the kitchen. At the breakfast bar, he takes a seat while I throw the leftovers in the oven. Then, I grab two glasses and fill them with Sprite and ice. I hand him one. He stares into it before beginning. "I need to get some things off my chest."
"Go ahead, but don't expect anything to change."
"Okay, but at least hear me out before making up your mind. Deal?"
"Deal."
"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of them all."
"Mulan."
