I didn't know where we were going, but I figured I would just sit back and enjoy the ride. I knew it had to be nice if he was dressed so nicely, and it was no secret that his family had money. I didn't really like fancy meals because I always felt out of place compared to the socialites. I didn't like dating rich people either, they always seemed pretentious. Granted, Jake and Laurie weren't like that, but it was still a stereotype I never wanted to be involved with. "Did I- Did I um, dress right?"
"Oh, definitely, you look perfect."
"Okay." He didn't tell me where we were going, but wherever it was, I was dressed properly. I went to turn on the radio, Pacify Her by Melanie Martinez, uh no. Not right now. I changed the station, ew country. I kept flipping through before giving up.
I looked up and saw that we were outside his house. Huh? I for sure thought that he was taking me to Oceano's or some shit. He got out and jogged to open my door. I grabbed his hand and got out. He walked arm in arm to the door. As we went inside, the whole house was draped in a dark red glow, candles were lit everywhere, the smell of roses danced through the air.
He touched the stereo by the door and Bloom by Paper Kites filled the space. I grinned and looked at Jake. Not only was this romantic, this was my type of date. He led me to the dining room and sat me at one end of the huge table in a room bigger than my bedroom.
Paper Kites softly ended and was replaced with Isbell's Maybe. I think he had my favorite Indie playlist from YouTube on but I wasn't sure. I hummed along as he filled crystal wine glasses with grape juice. I giggled and sipped a little of the drink. The children's wine flowed down my throat and I emptied the glass not realizing how thirsty I truly was. He chuckled and refilled it. He then disappeared into the kitchen and brought out the food. I thought it was going to be pasta or something. It was Italian, but not the kind you think would be made for a fancy home dinner.
The first thing I saw on his face was his grin, then my eyes traveled down to his hands to reveal two china plates with the pizza Lunchables on them. I put my hand over my mouth to stifle the snorting. This was an amazing date so far. "You put a lot of thought into this didn't you?"
"Without a doubt." As if on cue, Without A Doubt came through the speakers. He set the food down in front of me and even opened the container. I got a cosmic brownie and a fruit punch Capri Sun with the cheese, pasta sauce, pepperoni, and pizza doughs. I neatly laid them on my plate and moved the dessert and drink to the side. "If you think this is amazing, wait to see what I have planned for the second date."
"Second date?"
"Assuming this one goes well of course."
"If you keep it up, you and Alex are gonna be neck and neck." He grinned and lightly spread his sauce with his finger over one of the pizzas. I did the same thing, I looked up at his smile and was attacked with a dab of pizza sauce on my nose. I gasped loudly and flicked a pepperoni covered in sauce in his direction. To his despair, it landed in his perfectly combed hair. Every time he reached for it, the sauce made his hair clump together even more. It was astonishing, to say the least, that he didn't care.
He rumbled with laughter instead and threw the cheese at me. It went down my bra and I gasped. You couldn't hear the music over our mini war zone as we flung our food at each other. I was wasting everything but my cosmic brownie, that deserved to be eaten. I was glad I was wearing black because I was covered in red and white (yes that was slight sarcasm). Jake was also covered in sauce and other bits of food.
He grabbed his sauce packet and squirted the remnants at me, it splattered all over my chest. In response, I fell to the ground and clutched the spot where there was the most. "I've been shot!"
He ran over and knelt by me, "I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to... Save yourself..."
"I can't leave you Cydney, not like this..."
"Why not? Tell my family I love them."
"You aren't going to die."
"Why not?"
"Because I love you!" I closed my eyes and went limp. He lifted my upper body and cradled it in his lap, fake crying. He cried until he started laughing. I smacked his chest for ruining the moment. My dress was practically ruined and would take a dry cleaner to get it out, the same went for his outfit. Luckily, the grape juice didn't spill onto the table cloth, it was red, and hid the sauce, but we would both be screwed if any liquids spilled. I got up and went to clean up my mess when he put his hand over mine to stop me. "We need to get you out of this dress."
"A little eager are we?"
"No, your dress is a mess. I think I have some long t-shirts you can use, or you can borrow something of Laurie's."
"I'll go up to her room and see what I can find." He nodded and let me go. I felt bad for not helping clean up, but in all fairness, he did start it. I jogged up the stairs to her room and found her making out with a guy. "Shit."
She jumped off him with the deer-in-headlights look, I immediately recognized the guy as someone from the football team before I shut the door and went to go downstairs. I heard her come out and I stopped as I was about to descend. "Dude what the hell?"
"I didn't know you were home."
"I know, but why did you come in my room?" I gestured to my dress and she immediately understood. She went back in there and came out with a grey camisole, pink plaid pants, and a sports bra. I thanked her and rushed into the upstairs bathroom to change. The camisole was a little short and exposed my stomach, but I didn't mind.
I went downstairs and saw Jake kneeling down in front of the TV, inserting a disc. It was only seven, and I didn't have to be home for another hour. He changed too, and was now in blue plaid pants that were the same as my borrowed one except for the size and color, and a white muscle shirt that showed off his larger than life muscles. How he was bigger than Alex I had no idea, but he could easily knock him out. I sat on the huge L-shaped couch and let Jake sit right next to me. He put his arm around me and I snuggled in closer.
I knew it was Harry Potter the second the Warner Brothers opening showed up and I grew giddy. My favorite movie franchise ever. "How did you know this was my favorite?"
"I didn't, I just put in Harry Potter because it's mine and I figured it was a safe bet." Alex and I never watched a movie together, we didn't even know what each other's favorites were. And here was Jake, I've had an amazing date so far, and it seemed almost effortless. Was this a good or bad thing?
