Quiet in the Library

I avoided him in Math when he passed me a note.  I'm sorry was written in his chaotic handwriting.  Without looking at the note, I crumpled it up and threw it at him.  Out of my peripheral vision, I saw him catch it and smooth the note back out.  He wrote something else and handed it to me again.

I'm sorry

I will tell you soon because I will have no choice and it kills me to keep secrets like this away from you... Please just bear with me until then.

I rolled my eyes.  Ugh, he didn't understand.  When a guy messes up, they need to apologize verbally.  Writing it on a note isn't good enough.

So, I was left handed, and my left hand was the broken hand.  I had to struggle with writing down my answers.  Finally, the teacher got the hint that I was having trouble and told me to pick a partner to help me for the day.  I looked around the room and chose the other red head.  I grabbed my things and went to sit by her.  I was at a loss for her name so I glanced at the top of her paper.  Her name was Emily.  That is a pretty name.  "Hey, Emily.  Can you help me for today?"

"Uh, sure."

"Thanks."

I pulled my chair by her and sat down.  I looked at her.  God, she was so pretty, her hair was curly and cascaded down to the middle of her back. Her eyes looked purple.  No one had purple eyes.  "What color are your eyes?"

"Oh, brown.  My mom says they look like chocolate, but I hate the color."

"Oh, I can't see brown.  It is the only color I can't see."

"I can't see blue."

"I think that is so weird, because my mom couldn't see green until she met my dad."

"Yeah, I read in a book somewhere that females can't see the color of their soulmates eyes until they meet them."

"Huh."  I started to panic, I didn't know what color Alex's eyes were either, they looked pink.  Does that mean he isn't my soul mate?  Should I break up with him and search for my soul mate?  I pull my mouth to one side and bite on the inside of my cheek.  "Can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead."

"Why did you choose me and not Alex?  He is your boyfriend right?"

"Yeah, he is, but I am mad at him right now."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"What did he do?  Sorry if I overstepped."

"Oh no, it's fine.  He is hiding something from me and refuses to tell me.  He says he wants to but he can't right now."

"Maybe he doesn't want to be treated differently by telling you."

"He should know better than that."

"Sometimes when you love someone, you are the most nervous about what they will think."

"I never thought of it that way."

"Not many people do, just give him some time.  Now, how did you break your hand?"

"I punched a wall, a lot."

"Can I sign the cast?"

"It would be an honor."  She pulled out a sharpie and signed her name in loopy cursive.  This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.  We concentrated on the rest of class, it was much more difficult since I couldn't feel myself write down the work I needed to solve the questions.  I was trying to do the problems in my head, but it just wasn't working out.  That's when Emily stepped in and wrote down the work for each problem.
