Chapter 46

The next day Shalini went to meet Dev, without any messages or calls because she knew he would not answer. She reached his place & rung the door bell & waited for him to open the door. When he did Shalini was astonished to see him but Dev had no reaction at all:

Shalini, "oh my God! Someone is looking sexy in the beard."

Dev did not speak a word, he shut the door right at her face & went in again.

Shalini (loudly), "what the f&^% Dev, well I am here to resolve things between us dude. Let's get back together."

There was still no reply from Dev.

Shalini was persistent & equally stubborn, she kept banging the door & her voice got louder. I guess she wanted all the attention from the neighbors to make Dev let her in, which was kind of working out:

Shalini, "Dev I am not leaving unless you let me in, how could you do this to me?"

Now there was a family living next door & they were always curious to know the kind of person Dev was, in fact they had seen Shalini come to Dev's place many times before, then later he living with Pinky, well this was a family who loved keeping a watch on their neighbor. Further all the drama happening currently was only adding up to their interest & speculations about Dev. So this lady walked out & asked Shalini to keep it low because her baby was asleep, well Shalini saw this to be an opportunity.

Shalini, "ma'am please can you help me convince him to let me in?"

Lady, "but why? What has happened? I have seen you several times come here before."

Shalini, "he does not want to let me in because we had a silly fight."

Lady (smiling sarcastically), "I am sure a silly fight."

Shalini, "what makes you react this way?"

Lady, "it is none of my business but let me tell you girl that all this time I did not see you around here. Dev had another girl living here with him."

Shalini, "what? (in a loud voice again)"Dev how could you do this to me?"

Lady, "I am sorry, I am sorry to tell you that but then you don't have to cry here or ask him anything. Come to my place, I will tell you more about what I think is going on. I have dealt with something like this before & I know how men can be brought back on the right track."

She took Shalini into her house, meanwhile with no more of hearing Shalini, Dev thought she had left so he took a peek outside & noticed her car was still parked outside. This alarmed Dev, knowing the kind of person she was, he quickly rushed out to see what was she up to. He could hear her talk to someone & the sound was coming from next door, from the Mehra's. Dev knocked the door of his neighbor for the very first time. Mrs. Mehra walked out:

Mrs. Mehra (with a frown face): "shame on you."

Dev (surprised), "excuse me."

Mrs. Mehra (calling out Shalini), "Shalini, he is here."

Shalini walked out & thanked Mrs. Mehra in front of Dev, "thanks a ton behen (sister) for this grand help."

Mrs. Mehra, "anything for you Shalini, I am reachable at all times in case if you need my help."

Shalini, "I can't tell you how much you have done already." Dev who was shockingly witnessing this sight spoke, "can I know what is going on? Shalini what crap have you told Mrs. Mehra."

Shalini, "everything & we have a lot of talking to do. We have troubled her too much already. Now let's go to our own house & sort out our differences. She pulled Dev out & they entered his apartment.
