The home phone rang halfway through breakfast.

"Hello?" Eanna picked up the phone. "Yes. I accept?"

"Who is it E?" I asked. He held up a hand.

"Yes. Yes he is. Who is this?" Eanna frowned. "Okay...? Seannie, it's for you. Some guy from the LA Penitentiary. He won't tell me his name but he really needs to talk to you."

I snatched the phone. "Hello?"

"Sean." It was Shane.

"What the hell do you want?" I spat.

"To see you." He sighed.

"Hell no."

"Please... I've been sentenced to death."

I fell silent.

"Please. If you have any shred at all of forgiveness in your heart, help me. At least have them give me life inside." He choked. "I don't want to die."

"Neither did your victims. Goodbye Shane." I started to pull the phone away from my ear.

"Wait! If you won't help me, will you at least be there when they... you know...?"

"Aren't your friends and family supposed to?"

"My family refused to come say goodbye..." He sniffed.

"I'll talk to Mark. Maybe. What about Drew and Joey and Daniel?"

"Drew won't. Joey and Dan didn't answer the phone."

"I'll talk to Mark. Goodbye Shane."

"Bye... And... I'm sorry."

I hung up, and sat down heavily.

"Who was that?" Eanna asked.

"Nobody."
