Elan's POV:

Katie? Cassie's friend?
But how did she get my number?
Why in the world is she even calling me after what Cassie just did to me?
And wait. This girl had guts. She had thrown me to the ground the other night and now there she was, asking me if I remember her or not.

"I suppose that's not a nice question right now," I replied on the phone.

"We need to talk." The worry in her tone made my heart skip a beat.

"Is Cassie alright?!"

"No," she replied without any hesitation.

"What? What are you saying? What happened?" My mind had stopped thinking right and it soon drowned in a sea of negative thoughts.

After letting out a sigh, she said, "Look Elan, I never pictured myself talking to you like this. But the thought of telling you about everything that Cassie felt and went through crossed my mind several times. However, there were reasons which made my mouth shut. And even Cassie's. Some reasons still remain, but I can't control myself anymore...I just can't see her cry."

"Woah Katie...what..what's going on? I can't solve these mysteries of yours alone. Please tell me if Cassie's fine."

"She's safe. She's with me. You don't have to worry about that." She assured me.

"Then what is it? Did she cry?" I asked, still worried.

"Do you care?"

"Of course I do! Stop asking these silly questions and elaborate on what you're trying to tell me." I snapped.

"You care even after experiencing her recent behaviour?"

"For a moment I had lost track. I..I thought I really had done a mistake. I wanted to hate her. But I guess I wasn't still ready for that."

"Oh God..where do you love birds learn these dialogues from?"

"Excuse me?"
What was this girl?

"Listen to me. Stop being a dumbo Romeo and for once put your Juliet to ease."

"What..." She stopped me before I could retaliate.

"Cassie and I are under cover on a mission to capture your father. I'm sure you don't need me to blurt out the reason behind that."

"WHAT?!" I choked on my breath.

"Calm down. You still need to hear some other important facts."

I was beyond words.
I listened to her for the next few minutes as she revealed the story behind my every misunderstanding. I was praying inside for this to be nothing but a dream. Because it sure didn't seem reality to me.

"You there?" She spoke again when she didn't get any reply from me for a few seconds.

Even breathing seemed to be a difficult task for me at that time and she wanted me to react. I closed my eyes and waited for the earth to crumple.

"Oh great. So now you've fainted. Listen to me Mister Elan. I told you all this because my Cassie needs you. Don't disappoint me."

"I will not disappoint you," I managed to say these words after which I hung up and felt my eyes go thirsty. I looked at the street ahead, lost in deep thoughts and I knew if I closed my eyes, tears would roll down my face.

I was beyond the expression of shock. I felt like I was the unluckiest man in the whole world.
Why? Because I had a father like my dad. I was afraid a day like this would come because of him. And it did.

Secondly, because I had lost my love. I wanted to make her life so much better but what did I do? I made it even more miserable.

I learned many things that day.
It's true that life is unexpected. It can bring anything at you at anytime.
It can make you kill yourself, or it can make you wish for immortality. It can dare to break your heart, or it can provide you with mere hope.
Life makes you wonder. And it convinces you to be its servant, whether for good or bad.

Life that day gave me scars, but it also gave me the strength to fight. To fight till the end.
For my mother. For my Cassie. For justice. For love.
In the name of hope.
