Two Worlds Collide

Chapter 7

A/N: Not sure how I did it but I managed to screw up the chapters! Lol totally skipped Chapter 6 so I had to rename a couple of the previous chapters. This chapter is actually chapter 7 and the last one was chapter 6.

Maya POV

Tonight was the night at Lucas and I were going to have our first date. I didn't want Liliana to know about it so I set it up that she'd be having a sleep over at my mom's.  Lily adored my mom and if my mom was around she'd forget I'd even existed.  Her other favorite place to be aside from with me and Riley was at my Mom and Shawn's. She was so excited that Grammy was going to the one picking her up from School today. My mom and I have always have had a special bond. It was always her and I for the longest time since my Dad had left us. It wasn't until she met Shawn that I felt like I had a father. He's always been so good and supportive of me. 

I came straight home from work and jumped in the shower to get around for my date with Lucas. Riley was going to be here shortly to help me with my hair and make up. She was so excited about tonight and even took me shopping for a dress to wear. Riley got here at about 4:00 just as I was finishing getting dressed. It was perfect timing as my hair was still in a towel which meant she could start on my make up right away. 

"Coming." I yelled as I started making my way towards the door. 

I opened up the door revealing a very excited Riley. "Peaches! I'm so excited about tonight." she said as I let her inside. 

"I am too. Thanks Riles for talking me into this." I said as we made our way back to my bedroom. 

"Anytime Maya. How are we going to do your hair?" she asked me. 

"I'm thinking I might leave it down and have you curl it. But lets do my make up first." I answered. 

"Sound's good!" she exclaimed. 

Riley did my make up and then got started on my hair. It took us about an hour to get done which ended up being perfect because Lucas wasn't supposed to get here until 5:30. 

"I'm so nervous, Riley." I admitted as I walked out with Riley to see her leave. 

"There is nothing to be nervous about Maya. You look stunning. He's going to love it." she said with a smile. 

"You think it will go alright then?" I answered as I bit my bottom lip. 

"Of course! I think it will go just fine." she replied. 

"I sure hope so." I replied. 

Riley turned to look at me as we stopped at the door "I know so peaches. I love you. Text me everything." she said with a smile. 

I looked at Riley and smiled. "I love you too. Thank you for coming over and I will definitely text you later." I replied. 

When Riley left I went back into my room to get a pair of shoes to wear with my dress. I chose a pair of black heels since dress was a yellow color.  After putting them on I put in some earrings and grabbed one of the small purses that I had before making my way out to the living room. I had got lost in texting my mom that I didn't even realize the time until there was a knock at the door. I took a deep breath and walked over to the door.  I opened the door and nearly went weak in the knees at the sight of Lucas who was wearing a pair of Khaki shorts and a really nice blue shirt and holding a bouquet of flowers. 

"Maya, you look stunning." he said causing me to blush. 

"Thank you." I answered shyly.

"Look I know this is just us getting to know each other but I still wanted to buy you flowers." he said with a smile before handing me the bouquet of flowers. 

"No, it's fine, don't worry." I said with a smile. "Thank you, the flowers are beautiful." 

"Are you ready to go?" he asked. 

"Yes, just let me put these in on the counter." 

Lucas and I went to a really nice restaurant here in the city. I settled on a simple plate of Alfredo while he got a burger and fries. 

"Thanks for agreeing to come with me, Maya." he said before taking a sip of his Pepsi. 

"Don't mention it. I need to get out more." I chuckled. "So tell me about yourself. The clinic closing was what brought you to NYC right?" 

"Yes, that's correct. My friend Zay who lives here actually found an ad in the paper about the previous owner of the pet clinic having to shut the place down due health problems that she had. I have always wanted to have my own vet clinic and felt this would be the perfect opportunity to fulfill that dream. " he replied "I also thought it would be a good move for me and Jordan." 

"Well the clinic is certainly lucky to have you." I said with a smile. 

"How about you?" he asked me. 

"Well I have lived here all my life. Art has always been my passion so when the job came up in the art museum here in the city I took it. I also went to college and got a degree in art teaching." I replied. "I was actually pregnant with Lily the first year of college so that was a bit of a struggle but with my mom's help and the help of her father I was able to successfully finish school." I replied. 

"Your little girl is lucky to have such an amazing Mom like you. I wish I would have had that for Jordan. His Mom never wanted a thing to do with him so I raised him on my own." he answered and I felt a sudden ping of sadness. "My mom and Dad also helped me." 

"It certainly seems like you have done an amazing job with him Lucas." I replied. "I applaud you for stepping up to the plate. A lot of guys won't do that." 

"Thank you, Maya. That means a lot." he said with a smile. 

Lucas and I chatted for a little bit longer as we waited for our food to get here. I learned that he was born and raised in Texas his whole life and that he hasn't really dated much either. It seemed like he and I were on the same page for a lot of things. It was nice to know how much we had in common. After eating he took me home. 

I turned to look at him before going inside "Thank you for an amazing night, Lucas." 

He looked at me and smiled "I hope we can do it again." 

"Absolutely." I said as I began to open the door. 

"Maya, wait." he said as he put his hand over my hand which was on the door knob. 

I turned to look at him and before I had time to think his lips were crashing on mine. It wasn't anything too passionate just a sweet tender kiss on the lips. I didn't bother stopping him either. After we broke a part I looked into his beautiful green eyes and he smiled at me. 

"I hope that was okay." he said as he cupped my cheek in his hand. 

"It was more than okay." I said with a smile. 

"Good. I'll see you soon." he said as he placed a small kiss on my cheek. 

"See you soon." I said as I watched him walk away. 

I walked into my apartment closing the door behind me. Tonight was perfect and I knew I was going to get an I told you so from Riley.  She was right about just going out with him. As much as I loved Lily it was nice to have night out by myself. I put the flowers he brought me into a vase then made my way back to my bedroom so that I could get around for bed. After getting into my pajamas I sent a text to Riley letting her know it was perfect and that I'd tell her all about it tomorrow. After that I drifted off to sleep.
