'I Need Her'

Mason's POV-

After a while, I heard a car pull up in the gravel driveway. I closed my eyes and prayed that it was just Ashely's dad coming home.

But unfortunately, I wasn't that lucky.

"Ashley!" her grandpa beamed smiling at Ashley. She climbed off my chest and walked to her grandpa.

"Hey gramps!" Ashley said smiling. I slowly got up from my spot on the couch and made my way towards Ashley and her grandfather.

I walked behind Ashley and put my hands gently on her waist and pulled her closer to me.

She looked back and smiled at me. It was reassuring, but loving.

"I love you." She mouthed.

"I love you more." I mouthed back. she turned around completely and put her arms around my torso. I leaned down and pecked her nose before looking up at we grandpa. He was glaring at me. His gray hair was only on the sides of his head. The top of it was bald. His brown eyes shined, but looked dull, like someone had been taken away from him.

"You marked a 14 year old?!" he growled at me.

"With all due respect, sir. I love Ashley and-" I started to say but I was cut off.

"Who are you anyway? Who marks a 14 year old?"

"I'm Mason Hollis, sir. And I marked Ashley because I love her more than anyone could ever love somebody. I would give up my life, and my alpha title for her."

"Mason Hollis, as in...son of Charlie hollis?" he said as realization dawned on him.

I nodded and said, "Yes sir."

He moved Ashley out of the way and hugged me. He pulled away and looked at Ashley. "Ashley...Jake-"

"I know, grandpa. I don't want to talk about it." Ashley said with tears in her eyes. I felt her sadness and despair. I pulled her into my chest and rested my arms on her shoulders. My arm muscles were blocking anyone from seeing her head.

She wrapped her arms around my torso and cried. "Ashley, I'm not going to say it's okay because it's not. Losing a family member isn't okay at all. But I'm here for you, the pack is here for you, your family is here for you. I love you, honey. I love you." I kissed the top of her head and her crying slowed.

I picked her up and she wrapped her legs around my waist. She felt tired. I could feel it through the bond. I slowly nodded towards the living room looking at Ashley's grandfather.

I walked towards the living room and sat on the couch. I put Ashley on my lap with her face in my neck and her butt on my thighs. I draped the tan throw blanket over us and her grandpa sat down on the chair in front of us.

"I'm Fred, son. But you can call me Freddie or Grandpa if you'd like."

I smiled at him and nodded, careful not to wake up Ashley. I looked down at Ashley and smiled. Without thinking, I said, "It seems like- like everyone is trying to rip Ashley and I apart. I can't let her go. It hurts when we're apart. It feels like I wouldn't be able to breathe without her, even though she takes my breath away everyday. I need her."

"That's how I felt about Clair, my mate."

"What do you mean felt, if you don't mind me asking, sir."

"When Ashley was 11, Clair and I were coming up to visit. We took a little pit stop and we visited the cafe in Georgia. Clair started feeling dizzy. I took her to the hospital as fast as I could. We got there and her heart stopped beating. There was silver in the chocolate covered strawberries." He choked out.

"Oh my god. Fred, I am so sorry." I looked into the poor old mans eyes and saw how empty they were. "I never should've asked. It was none of my business."

"It's fine son. It feels good to talk about it once in a while and not keep it bottled up." He smiled a small smile. "Well, I'm going to go take a nap. Old people take naps a lot you know." we both chuckled.

"Okay. Goodnight sir."

He walked up the stairs and I looked down at ashley.

"What would I do without you?"

•AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER•

<Ashley's POV>

I woke up to find myself in my bed. I stretched and found myself searching for a certain brown eyed person.

I couldn't find him but the smell of his cologne was on my bed. I looked next to me on my white bedside table.

There was a small piece of paper with my name on it with a dozen hearts. Next to that, was a bouquet of red roses.

I opened the note and put the roses on my lap.

'Ashley,

I see you've woken up. Well, good morning, baby. I'm sorry I'm not there to see your beautiful face, but I wanted you to spend some time with your grandfather. I love you so much, baby.

All my love,

Mason <3

Xoxo'

I smiled and took out my phone.

After a few seconds my phone made a ding noise.

From: Wolfie ;)

Dinner and a movie..? is that good? if it's not, we can totally do something else.

To: Wolfie ;)

I locked my phone and threw off my blanket. I walked over to my dresser and pulled out some baggy gray sweatpants and a black tank top. I threw those on and pulled my hair in a messy fishtail braid.

I walked downstairs and grabbed my backpack from the living room and jogged up the stairs. When I got to the office, I sat down at my desk which was next to Ryland's. it was white with 'Ashley' written in green paint.

"Oh the joys of high school..." I muttered as I started my homework that Miranda had texted me.
