Halle and I ran up to each other, embracing each other. I looked over her shoulders to find Francisco grabbing paper out from the printer that was exactly on the other side of the wall. He glares at me. I pull away.
"Well, I have to get back to work. Since Francisco decided that I can't just sit around and do nothing now." I say. Knowing that Francisco was listening.
"Wow, I would like to get to know more about Francisco, since he's seems like the biggest asshole." Halle replies. We both laughed. That's when I knew that I should not let this conversation get out of control.
"Yeah, but I guess it's the best for me. Also don't try to text me. Because my phone was also taken from me." I say.
Halle nods before sitting down on the chair. I walk back over behind the counter. I finished the waffles before setting them on counter.
Martinez and Tom came together from the hall. They grabbed a plate and sat down at the table. I see Francisco from the other side, he sat down at the table besides Martinez.
I look over to find Halle and Jo talking about something over by the stairs. They were talking for about twenty minutes. I smile at the sight.
"Thank you Sofia. This is so good." Francisco says. Sofia looks at me.
"Well you should also thank Sage. Because she helped me make them." Sofia replies.
"She doesn't deserve my thank you." Francisco says bluntly.
"Don't worry about him. He's just upset that you did the job right." Sofia whispers in my ear. I nodded. "You can take a break."
I nod before walking away from the kitchen. Halle and Jo seems to be getting along pretty well. * I opened my bedroom door.
Finding Rafael sitting on my bed. He nearly scared me. I walked over and sat besides him on the bed.
"I just wanted to thank you for getting me this job. I know Francisco is really upset with you. But I want to thank you so much." Rafael says.
"Well you could repay on taking me out to eat for lunch." I reply grabbing my small purse.
"Okay, that's easy." Rafael says standing up from sitting down on my bed. He walks towards the door as we both headed up the stairs.
I walk over to Martinez skipping over Francisco, knowing for a fact he would say no. Martinez looked up at me. I lean down to talk to him so Francisco couldn't hear.
"Can I go with Rafael to go each lunch with him?" I ask. Martinez surprisingly nodded his head in approval.
"What?" Francisco ask Martinez.
"Francisco calm down. Sage is just going out to eat with Rafael." Martinez answers. Francisco's rolls his eyes I'm either jealousy or frustration.
"Fine, but if she gets taken by the Russians. Don't blame me for not warning you." Francisco says walking his plate over to the sink before placing it down.
"He's just mad about something. I'll deal with it later." Martinez replies.
"He's been mad ever since I came back. I guess anything I do won't satisfy him." I say slinging the small purse over my shoulder.
"Well, go with Rafael." Martinez replies. I smile.
"Thanks Martinez and please try to deal with Francisco." I say walking away.
I follow Rafael out the door. He offered me to plenty of restaurants. I took a simple cheap for New Jersey at least. Five Guy Burgers.
"Have you ate here before?" Rafael ask. I shook my head.
Just like all of the other mafia members. Rafael had a nice luxury car. It was a white BMW. He reminded me of Martinez, but also Tom.
"Again I just want to thank you for getting me this job. I needed it so much." Rafael reminds me.
"I feel honored for doing it for you. But don't give me one hundred percent of the credit. You did what you did during the interview. What about eighty percent of the credit." I reply.
"Okay, I will give you that amount." Rafael says. I smile.
***
It was about two o'clock when Rafael and I came home. I thanked him, but after our one on one date. I would only consider him a good friend. Not anything else.
Rafael and Martinez got into the Porsche leaving to go somewhere for their meeting. I press the code into the key code. Which was 9835, I open up the door.
Francisco was at the counter cutting the cucumber. He looked over rolling his eyes. I walk away wishing Rafael was here.
"Ow, Fuck!" Francisco yells.
I walk slowly down the stairs. You need to help Francisco. He's just playing. Just help him. I turn around to Francisco and walked over. I see him cover his finger with a paper towel that the top was fully red.
"Are you okay?" I ask looking at the paper towel which was currently covered in red, rushing over to him.
"Just cut myself with the knife." Francisco says in worried/calmly way.
"Let me have a look." I reply. Francisco takes the paper towel from his finger. I pressed my thumb against the cut. After about a couple minutes. I realize my finger. The bleeding stopped.
I open the drawer, grabbing a bandaid from the box. I wrap it around the tip of small little finger. I close the drawer. Francisco moved his finger.
I dropped my fingers from his. I walk away from the kitchen. Heading down the carpet stairs. I turn the knob. My bedroom was dark. I used the palm flicking the switch on.
I close my bedroom door behind me. I set my purse down on the chair besides my desk. I got onto my bed. Placing my sandals on the floor. I stared off at the white blank ceiling trying to imagine California on the ceiling.
I shut my eyes. I imagined black and white images of the tropical sand and ocean water. I felt myself drift off. Voices started to ring in my head, louder and louder, before I was had gone to sleep.
