Sage

"Good morning Sage, happy birthday!" My Grandma cheered, as I reached the bottom of the steps. Still in my silky dark blue with stars, pajamas.

"Morning Grandma." I replied.

I noticed on the table there was a cake, a chocolate cake. On top of the cake was the number twelve. A smile grow across my face at the sight of the cake.

"Wait Sage, before you eat your cake. You need to eat lunch first and of course open your presents." Grandma said pulling the cake slightly away.

"I will open my presents while eating breakfast." I told her as I made my over to the living room, waiting for Grandma to bring the gifts.

"That's perfect. I have a very special once for you, all the way from New Jersey." Grandma explained as She walks over to the table against the wall, besides the stairs.

She opens the drawer, pulling out a light brownish envelop before making her way towards me. She hands it towards me. I grabbed it from her and without any sort of hesitation. I ripped open the envelop.

The card read in red coloring: Get Well. I raised my eyes in confusion. Turning towards Grandma in hopes she would explain, but it was no longer Grandma, instead white walls. I got up from the couch, but it disappeared along with Grandma too.

I ran off from the original place where I was at. Hoping to get to the end of this nightmare, but it never seemed to end. I stopped, even though I didn't run of breathe. I just wanted to stop, it was no use.

I glanced down at the card, which was still in my hand. I threw it out of hands. Then turning my head to see if there was possibly another way out, sadly not. I turned towards my hand as I felt a presence on it.

I brought my hand towards me and the card reappeared again. I threw it out once more, it returned again. This time instead of throwing it out I opened it. There a lot of writing in nice handwriting.

It slowly started to smudge away. Until colors came back and I realized it was a hospital room. My body lying on the bed. I found a calendar besides the heart monitor, December tenth.

I turned my right as the door opened. It was the receptionist letting Francisco and Halle in.

"Two full weeks and she hasn't waken up yet." Francisco stated, I could sense the sadness in his tone.

"Just two days before her birthday." Halle replied. I walked over to the bed where my body lied. Was this really happening or just my imagination?

Francisco

"She never told me that." I said.

"Well, maybe she never got the chance. Besides that's not the point, the point is. We have to hope she wakes up." Halle replied giving me a faint smile.

"You're right." I agreed then I felt my phone start vibrating in my back pocket. I pull my phone out and find it from Sofia. "Oh, Sofia wants to talk. I'll be back."

Halle nods her head. I walked out of the room, into the hallway. It was empty, only nurses and doctors passed by. I found a bench against the wall, perfectly in the opened spot. I slide across my phone screen to answer the call.

"Hello?" Sofia said softly.

"Yes Sofia?" I said sounding aggravated, well because I am. The doctor was coming in with news, in less than thirty minutes.

"Has Sage woken up yet?" Sofia questioned.

"No, not yet." I answered.

"I am sorry for interrupting on your visit. I am just so eager to know, because it's been two weeks." Sofia replied.

"I will text you, when I get news." I said.

"Thank you." Sofia replied before we exchanged goodbyes and ended the call.

I turned around when I hear heels clicking across the tile floor. I find it was Halle, she pulls the door behind her.

"The doctor came in. He said that it could possible that it could take up to months for her to wake up from her coma. The surgery went well, but things didn't go too good afterwards." Halle explained.

"No, no. That can't be right." I said in denial.

"Francisco, as long as she's in good health and hands. Everything will be okay." Halle replied. "Maybe she will wake up sooner than expected.

"That's not the point Halle. Sage was supposed to start her first semester this January and now some stupid shit like this happens. Nothing is okay." I argued.

"Whatever Francisco, go say your goodbye and we are out of here." Halle said. I just wanted to scold her for her attitude. She didn't seem a bit worried about Sage.

"Fine." I replied keeping my cool. Halle takes a seat on the bench. I walked over to the room that Sage was in.

I turned the knob, entering the room. I found Sage still lying lifelessly on the hospital bed. I pressed my eyelids tightly together. She can't be in the coma for that long. I slide the the doctor's chair up to the bed.

"I am sorry. That I got you in this mess. Why this all happened. Why you are here and know my name. Or any of these names. The only one you should know is Halle's. You shouldn't have anything to do with the mafia. You should've went though the rest of your life, assuming your parents died in a car accident. You should've just continued on school like a normal person. But since we can't reverse time, how about I just tell you that, I love you. I love you Sage Reid. Yet, I regret getting you into this mess. You are one of the best things that's ever happened to me. And that's coming from someone who's probably had the worst of luck. But I just want you to wake up and finish college. And don't remember any of this." I said. "Maybe you won't even wake up."

Nothing but the faint audio from the television and everything else was silent. I pushed myself off the stool. I pushed it back into where it was originally. Turning back over to Sage, making my way over to the bed. I glanced at her one more time. That's when I remembered,

Putting my hands into my pocket. Pulling a long chain. That had a Swarovski crystal in the middle. Which Sofia had given me before I arrived here. She told me it meant something about Sage, it must've been her birthday. Since the charm was light blue.

I decided to place it down besides her hand. When she would wake up. It will be the thing she grabs. As I set it down. I felt a grip against my finger. I ignored it at first.

"Francisco." That raspy, but perfect voice of Sage Reid had visited my ear, once again.
