Walkie talk

"Hello?" A monotone, feminine voice the walkie.

"Um, hi." I didn't know what to say... Was I supposed to introduce myself? Or was I supposed to tell her what the situation was? Or was I supposed to ask her about herself? Mayuri had made it seemed like me and this girl would have a connection, but I was really sure.

"Are you, Shihoin-sama?" She asked quietly.

"I am! And you are?" I was surprised. I couldn't remember if Mayuri had mentioned her name to me more than once. I didn't want to guess and be wrong.

"I am, Nemu Kurotsuchi." Oh... wow.

"You're.... Mayuri's...?" wife.

"In chronological terms, I would be his daughter. I am also his first lieutenant in his team, but I am also a project."

What a relief and horror at the same time. "Oh, so... were you a test tube baby?"

"Yes, I was."

"That sucks."

"How?"

I paused for a long time; was my own birth even worth mentioning?

"Hello, Shihoin-sama? Are you still here?"

"Um, yea. It sucks, because I was one too. My dad... he extracted an egg from my mother and altered my genes all the way down to the way my tongue sits in my mouth. He was always transfixed on perfection." My words seemed surreal as I said them, but I knew it was the truth. When I had turned 6, my father had showed me the formulas and videos of his adventures in the lab that I had spent a lot of time in with him.

"So we are alike."

"Yea," I gave a sad smile, "Both our creators expect so much from us."

"I am not good at the 'giving hugs' thing, but I can try." She offered over the walkie.

I chuckled." It would be impossible. I'm currently stuck inside of a bird cage, while Captain Mayuri battles a demented spirit for the right to use it as a project."

There was a silence.

"Hello?"

"My apologies, I seemed to have spit my water out in surprise. That was a very... entertaining thing to say."

Did that mean she liked my joke?" Yea."

"Shihoin-sama, I will gather another person and we shall come retrieve you in the meantime while Captain Mayuri deals with the spirit."

"Alright, well, I can't exactly tell you where I am."

"That is fine, the walkies have gps in them."

.... So, mayuri gave me a tracker? I flipped the back of the walkie over and flipped up the compartment. There beeping red was the tracker. Why was I not surprised.

"Shihoin-sama?"

"I'm here, sorry. I just had to check it for myself." I shook my head and sighed.

"We will be at your location in apprx. 20 minutes. Please be patient."

"Alright, no problem. Thank you, Nemu-chan."

"Nn.."

The walkie-talkie remained silent after that, leaving me to my own thoughts. Having mentioned my birth was what had in a damper mood. There were times when I thought my father was sick and twisted for what I was put through. For my dead mother and brother, but I couldn't really hate him. He seemed like he was better now - they probably forced him into therapy. The lab where I was made - was also where I had lived a lot.

Every now and then, we would go up to the Murakami main house or even out because dad had some kind of scientist convention to attend. Kisuke was truly the first person, outside of my father, that I had any real human interaction with. Kisuke was a person I got to see on a daily basis and I was happy to see, because he cared for my wellbeing. He would bring candies and snacks despite my father not wanting me to be corrupted by processed items.

My heart ached a small bit. I missed my brother and wished that he could come save me. We could sit and chat.

It had been years since I had been away from Kisuke and I guess now it was setting in. To truly be alone and without someone always attentive right beside you.

A tear fell down my cheek, but I wiped it away as I saw two figures coming towards me. I stood up slowly. One day, I would have to make the trip to see my brother but not anytime soon. Mayuri and I would soon have a new project that we will have to work on.
