Chapter 21

"You remember your cousins right Alex?" "Yeah of.... Wow." I exhaled out. I looked up to see my very matured cousin Smith. "Wow Smithy boy I never knew you'd be like what, six feet tell!" I said looking up at my oh so tall cousin. "Well it's called puberty. I can't stay the same height as a twelve year old." Damn his voice got deep. "And you got um.. Less fat." "I don't know if I should that as a compliment or not. But thanks?"

Man it's weird coming into this house again.

I looked up and saw a school picture of me back in fifth grade smiling with my braces on and double chin popping out.

Such a bad picture....

I shook my head and looked away.

"Hey Grandma did Mom send any um new pictures of me?" "Yeah but I've been too lazy to hang them up. Why?" I'm going to need to put them up soon. "Oh nothing just curious." I said wandering away. "Can't look at the old you?" Smith questioned smirking. "Fuck you." I said glaring at him. Smith only looked down at me with his hands up in surrender. "Kidding." I walked away into the kitchen.

Who all knows I'm pregnant in this family? "Nobody knows but me sweetheart. Oh and Steve." My grandma Ted said pulling me in for a side hug. "You didn't tell?" "It's your business to tell not mine." She said leaning her head on my shoulder. "Promise me you will take good care of my great grandchild?" "Of course." I said. I'm not going to be one of those parents who leaves their kid to go to a bar. "Good. I'm glad you're keeping it." She mumbled. I looked over at her and saw she was teary eyed. "Hey don't cry." I said bringing her in for a hug. "I'm so glad you're talking to your parents again." She said hugging back. I looked up at her and understood.

After my mom got pregnant with Paul she left with my dad to San Diego to live with his family. She didn't know my grandma would have excepted her getting knocked up at a young age so she thought the best idea was to leave. Which of course would upset any parent.

"Left to go to the store and see my mom having a hugging fear with..... My favorite niece!" I heard that thick jersey accent that came out of my uncle Floyd. "Uncle Floyd!" I said breaking the hug form Grandma Ted and embracing for another. "Wow you look good now Alex. No braces. No more blubber. Wow." "I can't say the same for you." I said pointing to his beer belly. "You know what they say, I'm sexy and I know it." He said lifting up his flabby arm trying to flex. "Alright alright put that shit away Floyd. Come on Alex let's take you up to the room you'll be staying in for a month. I hope you don't mind the mess." Grandma said leading me up the familiar stair case. We walked up to the room where I remembered was Smith's room.

We opened the door to find Smith smoking a joint. "Put that shit away! Alex can't be around that stuff when she is in the room." Grandma said smacking the side of Smith's head. She walked out and shut the door so I can awkwardly stand watching Smith finish his blunt.

"You heard Grandma Smithy." "Ah fuck her. You want a hit?" He said holding it up to me.

Fuck to the no.

"Um no and seriously I can't be around that shit." "And why not?" Should I tell him? "You really wanna know?" "Duh." "Well I'm pregnant." I said flatly. I looked up and saw Smith dropped his joint and stared blankly at me. I picked up the joint and put it out before it starts a fire in the room. "You're-" "Pregnant, yes." "Wow. So who's the lucky guy?" He said smirking. "I mean there's a guy in the picture right?" I stood there rocking back and forth on my heels scratching my head. "He kind of doesn't believe it's his child." "Alex.." I looked up and saw a pissed off looking Smith. "Look I don't want you to turn into Grandma. Either you go get a DNA test or I'll fly my ass out there and kick his ass so he knows it's his damn child." He said flaring his nostrils. I looked down too embarrassed to answer back. "So tell me what happened?" Oh boy..
