Kookaburras are these crazy birds from Australia that have this cool-ass call that sounds like laughter. There's an old folk song about them that goes,
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh
Kookaburra, gay your life must be
This just randomly popped in my head for no reason and I literally went on a grand search for a good version of this song. Sadly, those are few and far between. I started getting angry because I always had a verse that went,
Kookaburra sits on a rusty nail
Gets a little boo-boo on his tail
Cry, kookaburra, cry
Kookaburra, oh how life can be
It seemed that nobody on the planet wanted to include this verse, fearing for the children's well being or something. Heck, some versions even opted out of using 'gay'! Anyway, I was beginning to wonder if I was delusional when I found a guy who shared that verse! Here's the vid:
He also excluded gay, but that's overshadowed by my relief of being able to know that I'm not crazy and this verse is in the song.
It's a sad life I'm leading.
