A Simple Song Of What?

Before I start, I just want to mention that this chapter will relate back to "Monkeys" (which is part 71) and it would likely be wise to read that first. Anyway, let's begin.

I was listening to that godforsaken MP3 player again because I can't control myself. This time, I decided to go back and see if I could find the sources to all these songs. A lot of the kid's song type things (*cough*fivelittlemonkeys*cough*) were located on this old desktop computer that I used to use for CD games and other stuff like that. There was also a metric ton of Backyardigans music on there. (Also, Gemstone_BP , this was where the whole Rockin' Robin thing came from). The only problem was that I couldn't locate the classical music.

Time skip to today at around 7:45 pm. I just watched Robots and I'm looking for another thing to put on. There's nothing in my DVD case that I feel like watching, so I turn to this stack of DVDs that I haven't put on in donkey's years. They're even dusty. I flip through a couple of them until I see two that catch my eye. They are both Classical Baby DVDs.

For those who don't know, Classical Baby was a series of videos aimed at young children. They were the type of thing a parent would show to a toddler to make it grow up smarter although they didn't even understand the significance of it all. It's the same sort of thing as Baby Genius. Every one had little segments of classical music played over corresponding fun animations. Each of the three discs was based around a central theme (Music, Art, and Dance). This is where all of the classical music I had came from.

Naturally, I wanted to give these a go. I chose to put on Dance and let it play. There were different segments and everything to watch. I was actually beginning to enjoy it. One of the segments is called "Scarecrow". It features a woman dancing around with the titular character to some lighthearted music. Here comes the part I'm getting to.

As I assume you know, I am in a choir. In it, we learned a song named "A Simple Song of Love". (I would embed it, but all I can find is some gospel song about loving Jesus.) The song was fairly easy to learn. It goes:

T'is a gift to be simple
T'is a gift to be free
T'is a simple song of love for you and me
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
We'll sing together in love and delight

Sing, sing, in perfect harmony
A simple song of love for you and for me
To sing, sing, will be our delight
'Til by singing, singing, we come 'round right

I know. It's quite cheesy. However, it was inexplicably easy for me to learn when I first heard it. It was almost like I already knew the tune. Here's the twist: I did already know the tune.

While watching Classical Baby tonight, I semi-whistled along to Scarecrow. I wasn't paying much attention. Then I started to sing along. It hit me in the face. The reason I learned A Simple Song was because of hearing Scarecrow all those years ago. It really screws me up that something I thought only impacted me when I was little laid dormant until now. That's all I wanted to write about, but I think it's really trippy.
