"How many times have I told you not to carelessly go outside Emma!" My father said. We were in the Grand Hall and my parents, well mostly Father was giving me a hard time. Mother stood beside him observing this father-daughter lecture. "When I saw Officer Boman with you I was shocked that you were that dumb enough to do such a thing!" He yelled.
Ouch. That hurt. "Father I know that I disobeyed your orders to stay in the palace but I needed to fly. I needed to be free and enjoy my abilities. Keeping me locked up like this won't get rid of my nightmares." I explained. His eyes were more gentle at the sound of my visions but he wasn't convinced.
"The Depression War is over Emma. There is nothing to worry about. If you are still having trouble sleeping then we should talk to the Royal Psychologist." He told me carefully knowing that I will react in a negative way.
"NO, YOU CANNOT! THAT WILL MAKE IT SEEM LIKE I AM GOING CRAZY!" I screamed in protest.
I didn't know why I was having nightmares about this. I wasn't even alive during that time. I only read books about it and they weren't even that scary. I used to love learning about the War but now, I didn't even dare touch a single book related to it. "Well, what do you want to do? Allow our citizens to fly freely and let the humans see us?" He asked sarcastically.
"Well yeah, I guess so." My father was about to reply but my mother finally cut in.
"Emma Lissa Sabina Fairthorn, you cannot talk to your parents that way. Also, you know perfectly well why we cannot let the humans see us. I'm sure your nightmares have shown you that." She said giving me a knowing look.
I winced at my full name being used. She knew I hated my full name and the mention of my imperfections. My nightmares were far from normal. Actually, they are more than strange. I imagined the Depression War happening again, but even worse. Airians dying, my family getting slain right in front of me, and humans ruling Earth AND Air. We Airians serving and worshipping them like slaves.
I shudder at the thought of it. My mother stares at me like she knows what I am thinking. She most likely is. "Now it is very late and Emma starts her education tomorrow." My mother said interrupting all our thoughts.
"Ahh yes, I almost forgot," My father said cheerfully. "Air Mackenzie Academy, the school your Mother and I met. It is a fine school, suited for only the elite. You will learn the finest subjects there and it will also make you more elegant and ladylike!" I rolled my eyes at that.
"I know Father, I read over the package." Well, I skimmed over it but my parents will think I read the whole thing.
"Yes, yes good Emma. Now let us retire to our beds. Don't wake your younger siblings, once they wake up they will never go back to sleep!" My father told me.
"Ok, ok, good night!" I said. They waved goodbye and I curtsied. I then left the Grand Hall. The Grand Hall was one of my favorite places in the palace. It was ginormous and it held many special events here. I walked upstairs suddenly sleepy, and I flew to my room instead.
When I reached my room, I saw my window open, letting in the cold night breeze. Aww man, now my room was cold, but I saw something more disturbing. My brother and sister were sitting on my bed staring at me with wide-open eyes.
