Shivering, I sat down on the sand next to Rodas, who hardly gave me a glance. The temperature had drastically dropped in the night but the warmth of my jacket and the campfire kept me from freezing to death. The memories came swarming back into my brain, almost blocking out my other thoughts. I abruptly stood out, catching Rodas off-guard. I walked away from the tents, fire, and everyone. I didn't know where I was going, I just needed to get away.

When the campsite was only a small, little light in the distance, I sat down and started beating the sand. There was too much pressure on my shoulders and I had to find a way to let it out. I was on the verge of breaking beyond repair. The sand bit into my fists, but I kept on pounding. The fear, anger, and grief came pouring out like a river, unable to be contained. Tears threatened to come out, but I would just hit harder. A memory came flooding into my mind and it took me over, but I still continued to strike the sand.

It hasn't even been a day and I was already bored. I was stuck in one of the strongest cells we had in the palace. A camera in each corner as well as a steel door and bulletproof windows. My legs and arms were bound by some unbreakable chain that wouldn't shatter no matter how hard I pulled. I was  I tried to break my way out, but all that accomplished was wasting my strength. No one came in or out, but there have been people staring at me through the window. My family never visited me which was a good thing or else I would've killed them, despite all my restraints. I never slept and ate which I appreciated. Sleeping and eating seemed too mundane and casual.

A week later, the door opened for the first time. I was testing out my chains for the thousandth time to see if they would break. Six Wizards came in with many guards who surrounded a man. My father.

I sneered. "Finally had the guts to face me, Father?"

"You are no daughter of mine," he calmly said. "But I will get her back soon."

I rolled my eyes and laughed. It sounded harsh and cold. The feeling of evil was addicting like a drug. "You must be dumber than I thought. You can never get her back." I answered. "That old, weak part of me is dead and you have to accept that. After all, we are family now."

He shook his head. "Not if I can have anything to do with that."

He made a gesture that I didn't realize and suddenly the guards held me down. I struggled, trying to break free. I'd only been a Krey for a week and I was just ten years old. Three guards managed to hold me down, stopping me before I could take the upper hand.

"What do you want? To kill me?" I demanded, gritting my teeth.

"I'm going to fix you, Emma. I'm going to return you to your normal state."

I panicked and thrashed, even more, trying to get away from anyone who could make me turn back to normal. The six Wizards on the side rushed forwards, creating a strange light in their hands. There were two middle-aged adults with three teenagers and young child. They moved on either side of me and placed the light on top of me. There was a burning sensation from where it touched me and I slapped one of the Wizards away. It was one of the teenagers and she had long blond hair. She fell down, looking dazed. A boy who looked her age stopped and helped her up. He had dark eyes and brown hair like chocolate.

The pain got less intense as the women left my side as well to go to the fallen girl and the boy who looked a lot like her. Strength went through me as I managed to kiss one of the guards that were holding me down. He started screaming and collapsed. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my father take out a sword and stab the officer in the head. The adult and teenagers returned to my side and created the same orb of light again. I couldn't take it anymore. The pain was too great. I began fading out and as I did, I felt warmer and warmer. It was like the ice in my body was melting. The last thing I saw was the same women that helped those two teenagers. She whispered something in my ear before I passed out.
