I ran back to the campsite as fast as I could, excitement burning through me. I was going to be home soon. I raced across the sandy land with one word in my head. Home.
I could vaguely hear Rodas running beside me, easily keeping up with his long legs. We made it back without taking any breaks and I was almost out of breath. Back at the campsite, Ellia was spreading leaves in front of the entrance of the male's tent. She caught sight of the two of us and instantly stood up and waved.
"Hey, where were you guys?" She asked suspiciously, eyeing the proximity between Rodas and me.
"I could ask you the same question." I simply responded, crossing my arms. I wasn't really mad or annoyed at her though, I was itching to tell her what happened.
She shrugged. "Fair enough, can I talk to you, Emma?"
"Uh, sure?"
She literally dragged me away from Rodas, whispering in my ear as she took me a safe distance away from everyone else. "Hey, do you want to help me prank Rodas? I got this bear trap ready to go."
"How did you-never mind. I don't want to know. Aren't bear traps dangerous though? Can't you lose a leg or something?"
"With Serena and Emily around, it'll be fine. Don't worry Emma, it'll be fun!"
I shook my head adamantly. "Nope, I'm sitting this one out. Have fun pranking them yourself."
She stuck her tongue out at me. "You're so boring now. You were a lot more fun when you were younger."
"Well someone needs to be the responsible one. Anyway, you wouldn't believe what I found."
"If it's anything besides something useful for pranks, then I don't care."
"Hey," I said, grabbing her arm before she could walk away. "I found Air."
Ellia froze and spun around quickly, her long, brown hair smacking my face. I don't think she knew or even cared. "Really? Are you sure?"
I nodded happily from the enthusiasm flooding into my body again. "Yeah, and it's really close-"
She interrupted me and started dragging me again. I could feel Rodas' eyes on us, staring at us questionably. "Let's go then. Which way Emma?"
I tried pulling Ellia the other way. "As much as I want to go home now, we should wait for the others."
She groaned. "Come on, Emma. Just one peek?"
"No, one peek will turn into hovering around Air, and then an actual visit. We have to go together."
She glared at me and started to walk away. Knowing Ellia, she would actually hunt the desert until she found Air, but something else took her attention. A very loud and masculine cry was shouted so loudly, anyone could hear it from ten kilometers away. Ellia's eyes shone with joy. "Someone got stuck in the bear trap!"
She ran back, eager to see who it was. I pinched the bridge of my nose, sighed, and followed her. I could see a man in the distance, struggling and flailing his arms. I mentally hoped it wasn't Rodas stuck there, or anyone really. A few more seconds of running made the person clearer and clearer until it was obvious that it was Dylan.
Blunt, metal clamps were stuck in his legs, getting tighter and tighter as he moved. His face was covered in sweat and based on his pained, red expression, he was doing his best to stay calm. Everyone else was somehow still sleeping, leaving poor Dylan alone with Rodas. He was trying to unlock the bear trap and managed to open it when Ellia got back. He threw it away as far as he could, making it land behind a sand dune. Dylan fell on Rodas who helped support him. They slowly moved towards a rock and he set Dylan down on it. He instantly turned around, looking angry and tense. I nearly took a step back, shocked at his sudden change of emotion.
