One Month Later....

I took out the books in my bag and shoved them into my locker. Another bell rang, signaling the start of lunch and the start of the period for whoever had class. I went up on the tip of my toes to reach the top shelf where my lunch was. I couldn't reach it. It was buried all the way in the back. A memory in the morning came back to me. In a hurry to get to class on time, I hastily threw my lunch on the top shelf without thinking of the consequences.

I frowned at my lunch, the top of it barely visible. Normally, I wouldn't have problems related to my height, but the lockers at Corsairville Secondary School were rather tall. The thought of flying appeared in my head and before I could shoot the idea down, my feet left the ground. I dropped as soon as it started but I made sure to grab along the way. My eyes instantly swept the hallway for anyone. It was quiet and empty. Everyone was either in the cafeteria or in class. I sighed in relief and turned around when I saw a girl with long, wavy brown hair. She looked about my age and the same height as me. What startled me the most was the strange feeling of déjà vu, especially from the large ring that sat on her right ring finger. She probably saw what just happened. My blood ran cold as I slammed my locker and ran away, gripping my lunch in my hand.

I found out quickly that I wasn't normal. I was found on the coast of Prince Edward Island, washed up on one of the beaches connected to the Atlantic Ocean. The only people there in the middle of the night was an old couple. They instantly dialed 911 and I was transported to the nearest hospital.

When I woke up, I had no idea where I was. I also didn't know who I was. A doctor came into my room and asked for my personal information. I was panicking by then. All my memories were gone. All I knew was one thing. My name. Emma.

He tried switching gears and asked me if I knew what happened or why the wound in my leg seemed to be caused by a very long knife. I shook my head again. He told me that I had a small case of amnesia. What happened before I passed out was traumatic and getting swept into the ocean didn't help either. It must've caused a mental strain on my brain.

I spent the next two weeks recovering. In the beginning, it was lying in bed, unable to move because of my leg. Slowly, I began walking around the hospital, visiting patients of all ages. It was then when I discovered that I wasn't like everyone else.

One day, I visited the ward for children. We started chatting and talking together about different things. At one point, one child started reading Superman and all the kids were having a debate over who was better. Superman or Batman.

I picked up the comic myself and read about his superstrength, laser eyes, flying abilities, and more. Without realizing it, I was floating above the bed, my foot almost touching one of the children's head. They all stared in awe before screaming for the nurses in amazement. They wanted them to see me too. Alarmed by their reaction, I dropped back onto the bed just before the nurses arrived. They did their best to calm everyone down and asked me to leave to get rid of the commotion.

The kids started whining but stopped when they promised ice cream. I passed by one of the nurses and they patted my shoulder. "Thanks for playing with the kids. They really loved that magic trick of yours."

I stared at her. "Magic trick?" I asked but she already went in.

I continued coming back, lifting the kids into the air when the nurses and doctors weren't looking. After my fourth or fifth visit, the kids were begging me to play a prank on one of the kids.

"Please Emma," one girl asked, giving me the cutest eyes ever. I wonder if I had any siblings. "He's always so uptight and sleeping all the time. We need him to experience fun!"
