Someone knocked on the door three times. I looked up at the door, mentally preparing myself for the battle ahead. The Krey banged on the door again, obviously very impatient.

"Alright, alright. I'm coming, you don't have to break down the door."

I swung the door open. I could hear the cheers and noise coming from above me. The Krey that was pounding on the door was a female, and she didn't look pleased.

"Well, you weren't coming out. I thought you were going to forfeit." argued the Krey, tapping her combat boot. She was dressed in black from head to toe. Even her hair and eyes looked black, but it had a tinge of brown in it. She looked like a dangerous tiger, sleek and mischievous. Her sharp eyes pierced my soul, and I fought the urge to smack her disapproving frown off her face.

"You here to take me to my match?"

"No Sweetie, I'm here to chop you up into little pieces and serve you for dinner." She answered sarcastically.

"Do all of you have a dry sense of humor?"

"As a matter of fact, yes. Now move along Princess, the audience is getting restless." She said, walking off. I froze for a second, taking in her words.

"What did you call me?" I asked, more surprised than angry.

She turned around and rolled her eyes. "God, are all of you newbies this dense? It was just a damn joke. Now hurry up, or Phineas's going to chew my ass up for this."

She continued walking forward and I ran to catch up. "Who's Phineas?"

She snorted, keeping her colorful eyes forward. "At this rate, you don't need to be killed in the arena to die. You'll do perfectly fine on your own."

I grabbed her shoulders and slammed her into the wall. I didn't know who was more shocked to see violence in me. The female Krey winced but managed to smile. "Well, well, well. I didn't know you had it in you."

I instantly released her and nearly said sorry. I almost forgot that I was supposed to be impersonating a Krey. Instead, I put on a tough face and a smug smile. "Doesn't everyone have a little darkness in them? Now c'mon, it's time to get my hands a little dirty."

This time it was her turn to catch up. "Well, look at this. You aren't so good anymore."

She stuck out her hand. "Zoey."

I raised an eyebrow. "Warm and fuzzy aren't words I would normally use to describe a Krey."

She narrowed her eyes. "Look, I don't wave this thing around for no fucking reason. Either shut that mouth of yours or shake my freaking hand."

"Ahh, there she is," I gladly said and firmly grabbed her hand. As I shook it, the ceiling rumbled from the crowd's irritability. "Looks like we should get going."

"That's the only right thing you said since I met you." She agreed, continuing walking down the hallway. "I didn't catch your name back there."

"Genevieve and I didn't catch the answer to my question back there as well."

"Smart and strong. A perfect friend."

"Thanks," I muttered, taking the compliment a different way than she intended. "So?"

"Right. I thought that you already knew this, but Phineas is basically the leader of this whole charade," she spoke bitterly.

"He's the most vicious and powerful here. It's been rumored that he lived for centuries as a ruthless, dark man. If you ever cross him, well there's never been a man alive to tell you what happens."
