Seiro and his sisters walked in with grief on their faces, but they were polite and still graceful as they moved. Chiho and Chise had red eyes but I couldn't see Seiro's face. He always had a mask on for some strange reason. Seiro always dressed in dark clothes like he was mourning for someone all the time. In this case, he was. I don't think he had ever worn bright colors before. He had short white hair and pale white-blue eyes. Today, Seiro was wearing black jeans and a black T-shirt. He wore navy blue running shoes with wings on the ends. He also wore his family crest on his neck and on his right ear. It was an outline of a wolf as if it was made out of shadows. His mask covered his whole face except for his mouth and eyes.
Chise and Chiho were clearly dressed differently from their brother. They both had pink pigtails and matching light green shirts. They had jean skirts with black leggings under. The only way you could tell them apart was their shoes. Chise had dark gray boots and Chiho had purple track shoes. They were also positive like Tamara and Tristian, but obviously not today.
"Ahh Seiro, Chise, and Chiho. I am very sorry for the loss of your parents. They were good people and their deaths have truly shaken us to the core." My father said. They nodded and it was clear that this was something they didn't want to talk about.
"Anyway, I'm sure that you know why you are here. We will have to ask you a few questions. Please kneel Seiro ShadowWolf." Seiro kneeled and looked down at his feet."Will you protect and serve the Princess?" Father asked. Seiro said nothing but he then nodded.
"Will you put your life on the line if the Princess is endangered?" He nodded again.
"Will you help her no matter what? Even if she was betraying the kingdom?" I looked in confusion. Why would I betray Air? It was my home and the only place where I had a family.
Seiro hesitated in nodding, but instead, he spoke. "Yes, I will My King." He replied.
Father looked overjoyed. "Then Seiro ShadowWolf, stand up and take your place next to the Princess." He stood up and elegantly flew behind me.
"Now then, Chise and Chiho. You must be curious why I summoned you here." My father said. They nodded eagerly. The twins were always the curious type. "Tamara and Tristan also need protection and they despise the guards so very much." Father sighed after he said that. That brought a smile to my face. Tamara and Tristian used to have guards watching them, but not anymore. After an incident that involved pies, stitches, underwear, and 50 naked guards, Father made sure to never have the royal guards keep an eye on them. Tamara and Tristian remembered this and burst into laughter in their seats.
"Yes, yes that was an amusing event but we need to focus." Mother said in a disapproving voice. The twins automatically stopped laughing.
"Chiho and Chise ShadowWolf, will you take the honor of protecting Princess Tamara and Prince Tristian?" They kneeled and replied, "Of course your Majesty. We swear on our life." Mother smiled.
"Just like your mother." She said sniffing.
Father suddenly stood up and announced, "Queen Dianne and I must resume our royal duties. We shall let you have the chance to speak to each other about this new arrangement. Also, Emma, you must leave in 10 minutes if you would like to make it to school on time."
My jaw dropped in alarm. Only 10! I nodded calmly but I was freaking out inside.
"Good," Father said. We bowed and curtsied and they flew out of the Dining Room. Chise and Chiho immediately raced towards Tamara and Tristian and they erupted into a conversation about sleepovers and fighting.
I turned towards Seiro. "I am sorry about your parents Seiro." I started. He didn't say anything like usual but he looked down. "I know that no one can replace them, but I want you to know that you have a family here at the Palace. If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask."
He smiled a bit and said, "Of course Master, I always knew that."
I smiled too and said, "Now since we got that figured out, as Princess of Air, I command you to stop calling me Master. Instead, call me Emma."
His eyes widen but he grudgingly agreed.
"I need to go sort out some things, how about you meet me by the royal clouds in 5 minutes?" I asked.
He bowed and said, "Yes Mas- I mean Emma."
I grinned and left the room to speak with a maid. "Excuse me, can you fetch my luggage for me and tell my head maid Amber and an officer to guard my room while I am gone? I don't want my siblings to fiddle with my things while I am gone." I asked.
She chuckled and answered, "Of course your Highness, I will see to it."
I replied, "Thank you." I quickly flew to the royal garage and saw Seiro there patiently waiting for me.
"Sorry I took so long Seiro." I apologized. He waved it off and my 5 pink suitcases along with Seiro's black duffel bag arrived. Our chauffeur loaded them in the cloud and we got on.
Clouds were how we traveled around Air. It was too risky to fly around outside during the day so only guards flew around the borders of Air to patrol it. Clouds were literally clouds and we found out a few decades ago that we can use them as transportation. Clouds held up all of Air. Humans think that you can't physically hold clouds, but we Airians know better. Clouds run on the wind since we were surrounded by it.
The chauffeur started the cloud and we flew off to my new home. Seiro wasn't a social person so the car ride was quiet. Only the radio was on and all it talked about was the failed raid from this morning. Seiro had a hard look in his eyes as he listened to the news. I told the driver to change the station but each time he turned the dial, the same story was on. He just turned the radio off. We soon reached a large cloud that even rivaled the Palace's cloud. Air Mackenzie Academy. I had to admit, it was breathtaking and it was difficult to take in all the beauty at once. It was even better than I expected. It was shaped as a castle like in the ancient times, but more advanced. It had brick walls with tall pillars that had vines growing in them. There was a large courtyard with paths leading to different sections of the academy. There was even a fountain in the middle of it all. It was 10 feet tall and there was a statue on it. King John Fairthorn was the king that created Air which provided sanctuary for Airians. He was the most famous king in all of history. The statue clearly looked like him. We soon landed and I got out with Seiro and 2 butlers carrying our things. I held my head up high and walked confidently to the entrance of the school.
There were two lines of students and they were facing each other, creating a pathway with a pink carpet on it. Headmistress Kiera was standing at the front with a warm smile on her face. When I got there, everyone bowed and curtsied. All but for one person.
It was a girl that looked no older than 15. She had her hair up in a stylish bun and a few strands of her hair was covering her left eye. She had a black leather jacket on with a black sweater under. She also had black track pants on. She wore clothes very similar to Seiro. Her intelligent, deep purple eyes stared at me while she looked around confused as she saw everyone showing me respect. The Headmistress scolded her and started apologizing. I ignored her and continued staring at the strange young girl. She looked back at me with confusion in her eyes. I walked towards her and signaled Seiro to stay where he was. Instead of scolding her like Headmistress Kiera, I put on my brightest smile and put my right hand out.
"I'm Emma Fairthorn," I said in a calm voice. "What's your name?" She just glared at my hand like it was a grenade. The bizarre girl then took her hand and closed it around mine. Before I could say anything, I was flipped into the air and I landed hard on my head. I blacked out.
