10 years later...

I grabbed the next document on top of the tall pile I had. I sighed and rubbed my eyes to get the sleep out of them.

The document talked about recent activity coming from the Arctic Clouds. A group of five guards went to scout the area to see if the Krey had regrouped after the war ten years ago. Only two have returned. One was critically injured while the other managed to bring back her fallen comrade with minor cuts and bruises.

I frowned at the report and quickly made arrangements for the fallen guards. Their families would receive a large amount of money from the Palace for a year. It was the least we could do.

"Pamela," I suddenly spoke, breaking the silence. "After lunch, I'll be visiting the infirmary. Fit this into my schedule, please."

My assistant adjusted her frames and quickly jotted my command down. "Would you like to have it after or before the meeting with the advisors, Your Majesty?"

I gave it a quick thought. "After, I'll need to clear my head after a long talk with them."

"Of course, Your Majesty."

I went back to the report and scanner it some more. "Pamela, where are the results of the Arctic Clouds Mission? All it says are the survivors and their well-being."

"General Godsworth insisted on giving the report herself, Your Majesty." She took a quick glance at her watch. "In fact, she should be here in a few minutes."

I shook my head. "She should get checked out first."

"The doctor already cleared the General. They said that she should rest and try not to exert any extreme physical movements."

"Fine, she may come. During the report, I want you to take notes on the missions results. A hardcopy would be easier to refer to in the future. Sometimes, my memory isn't dependable."

"Certainly, Your Majesty."

I smiled kindly at Pamela who was sitting at a smaller desk beside mine. "Pamela, you don't need to talk so formally with me. You're best friends with Tamara. We've basically known each other for years."

She shifted uncomfortably. "I know, but it still feels weird, Your Majesty. You gave me this job out of all the Airians in Air. For that, I'll always be grateful."

"You deserved it. I didn't choose you because of Tamara it was because-"

The doors suddenly opened, scaring both Tamara and I. My hand itched towards my drawer where I knew my knife would be. When I saw my overjoyed sister, I relaxed.

She ran towards us, with an excited face. I prepared myself for the mini-lecture I was about to give her but her next words made me forget everything.

"Em, Pam, I got engaged!" She squealed, shoving her hand in front of our faces. On her ring finger, a very pretty and large diamond sat there, just like her personality.

I grinned while Pamela stood up, hugging her. "OMG! Really? Was the proposal romantic? Did Julian get down on one knee? Did you decide the date of the wedding?"

I nearly laughed out loud. Pamela may seem timid and quiet but she was the exact same as Tamara.

Before she could respond, the doors opened again but with a lot less force. A little toddler came in with a little boy trailing after her. A frantic woman followed behind them. She bowed when she entered the room. She was the nanny I hired for the kids.

The little two-year-old expertly climbed up the stairs towards me, pulling on the hem of my dress until I carried her in my arms. She giggled, warming my heart. My mood went from good to great. She had dark eyes with light brown eyes with small pink streaks in her hair. Some drool spilled out of her mouth but I quickly wiped it away with my sleeve.
