The Lion King Origins: Book One

01| New Beginnings

The sun began to rise on the beautiful African plains, changing the sky from peachy orange to bright pink. Deeper across the lands, a home to a large lion pride stands. Pride Rock is the name, home to the great Kings and Queens of the Pride Lands. In the far back of the cave, the new royal couple sleep peacefully, King Kovu and Queen Kiara. Next to them lay their two Cubs, Nama and Leo.

Nama takes after her mother, just a darker fur color, Pride Lander nose, ruby red eyes, light brown hair tuft on her tail, and a cream nuzzle and underbelly. Leo on the other hand, takes after his father, same fur color, Outlander nose, emerald green eyes, and a cream muzzle and underbelly and a dark brown hair tuft on the tip of his head.

Leo was born first, so he will rise as the new King. Ever since Simba's passing, Kovu made it his goal to train Leo to be a strong and powerful King that will make everyone proud. Nama will become a strong and beautiful lioness, either joining the hunting party or going separate from her family.

Only time will tell...

•Leo•

The bright sun from outside slowly enters the cave, making me snap open my green eyes. I slowly stand up, trying not to wake up my parents, and nudge my sister.

"Leo, why are you up so early?" She yawned and sat halfway up.

I smile brightly. "It's sunrise, we're going to explore the Pride Lands today, remember? Mommy promised to take us, but since she's asleep, let's just go on our own!" I encourage.

"Fine, lets go before they wake up." She whispers, and we both quietly paw to the mouth of the cave, into the morning light. We stand at the tip of Pride Rock and stare at the wide kingdom. This will all be mines someday!

"Lets go!" I say, but before we could run down the steps, mother's soft voice enters my ears.

"Going somewhere, little ones?" She sits down with a wide grin.

"Um, we were going to explore the lands mommy. You were still asleep so we thought we could go alone..." Nama spoke for the both of us.

She lets out a light chuckle and leads the way into the plains. We both follow close behind and begin to take in all the sights. "Wow." We both say in awe. Mommy smiles down at us.

"Beautiful isn't it?" She says. "Being a member of the royal family is very special. Every animal in the Pride Lands respects you, and you must respect them."

We walk to the waterhole and pass by a small family of hippos. They bow with warm smiles.

"Good morning my Queen, Princess and Prince." The mother smiles and splashes with her child in the water.

"Good morning Marai! Anything to report?" Mother laps up some water before asking.

"Actually yes. Yesterday we spotted a male and female hyena crossing into our lands. It was hunting a female gazelle, but lost the hunt and ran away."

Mommy looks intrigued. "Mmmm, interesting. I'll be sure to tell Kovu and have some of our male lion guards on the lookout for anything else."

Marai nods. "Come on, let's go home. I'm sure you father is awake by now and wondering where we are." Mommy turns around and begins to head back home.

"Mom, what's wrong with hyena's? I thought all animals showed respect.." Nama asked.

"Not all animals, dear. Those hyena's have been trying to invade the Pride Lands for years, constantly taking our prey and even killing some of our cubs. Your grandfather's uncle, Scar created a dark uprising, in which lion and hyena came together, creating chaos. There was no food, or water, everything was destroyed. They've broken our rules, so we banished them away, but now they are beginning to return..."

Me and my sister look at each other with worry eyes.

"Nothing will happen to the two of you, as long as you guys stay away from the Outlands.."

We both nod our heads quickly and sooner or later we arrive back home.
