BONDS OF DESTINY
- III -

We were half-way through the game. Chase and Riley working their asses off to keep their lead. The new Quarterback from Barton High was not one to shake. My mind though wasn't that into the game as it kept going over alternate positions or what specific barriers that needed some more upkeep. The five track teams were all stationed at different locations, and teams of three warriors were out patrolling the territory. There wasn't much more I could do at the moment which was why I was now sitting at the game.

The whole thing with the now deceased Raven pack made my heart sting. My mother had been from the Raven pack before she found my dad and relocated to be with him, but that wasn't what annoyed me.

A thought had occurred to me.

Was this what Nyx was warning me about?

Could this be the chaos she was talking about?

I felt Ally push me in the side and I again focussed on the game. Chase had seized the ball and we were once again on offense. I got to my feet with the others, cheering for my team and that's when I felt it.

The change in atmosphere.

"Do you feel that?" I heard Ally ask me quietly and I nodded my eyes already scanning the area. I sensed my pack members discomfort and noticed how Dean called for a time-out down on the field.

It felt like I was trapped in a ball, my senses becoming dull. The sounds ceased to indistinctive chatter. The colors faded and it was like everything started to move in slow-motion.

Then it was gone.

The world sped up again and everything went back to normal.

"What the hell was that?!" Ally said her hand trembling as she reached for me looking at me for answers.

"I don't know," I said silently, a knot in my stomach. Something about it felt familiar but I couldn't quite locate it.

"It was like everything went in slow-motion. I couldn't hear or see properly," Ally said her eyes wide. "Didn't you feel it too?"

"I did," I replied and I found Chase gazing up at me with wonder.

"What the hell? Was I the only one feeling like I couldn't move normally?" I heard Chase in my mind.

"No, we all felt it. I don't know what it is. Continue the game but stay alert," I responded with my voice firm. Chase nodded at my response and walked over to the others. The game starting up again a few seconds after that.

"Stay here," I told Ally and started to make my way past her.

"No, you can't leave me here alone," She objected, her eyes popping out of her head in fear.

"You'll be fine," I said my eyes boring into hers, pleading her to stay calm. "I'll be right back," I added and made my way down the bleachers.

"You are nothing, weakling. No one can ever measure up to me." His red eyes glowing at me. God, he smelled bad. Almost rotten like death was clinging onto him.
