BONDS OF DESTINY
- XIV -

I did not know what time it was when I ran down the stairs heading for the elevator. I felt like my mind was about to explode if I didn't get out. The only thing was that this was Barton and there was no places where I could go running in my wolf form without being exposed. Therefore I had jumped into my running clothes deciding on a run through Barton Park would have to do for now.

I did not even reach the elevator before I noticed a presence occupying one of the couches. Stopping in my tracks I walked closer. Argent was sound asleep, barely able to fit on the couch, his feet sticking out over the arm rest. I smiled a little to myself by the sight but stopped when I noticed his pained expression.

His mouth set in a straight line, and wrinkles forming around his closed eyes, briefly disappearing to make room for new ones. His hair was ruffled like he had had trouble falling asleep in the first place.

I knew I should go running, but seeing him lying there I couldn't get myself to go, so instead I sat on the table just taking in his sleeping presence. Maybe he had chosen to stay on the couch to prevent me from leaving again and instead he had fallen asleep. I sighed knowing that was probably the reason. My track record concerning that wasn't exactly reassuring, but he had seemed so angry yesterday I actually wondered if he had regretted getting me to live with him in the first place.

Well, it definitely would have been a lot easier if he hadn't requested me here. Then I wouldn't be hurting him like this.

I couldn't prevent myself from reaching out, my fingers trailing his cheek and jawline, his stubble was more prominent and scratching against the tip of my fingers.

"I'm sorry," I muttered under my breath letting my hand rest on his cheek, my thumb caressing it in slow circles. A small rumble sounded from the back of his throat almost like he was purring and a small smile tugged in the corners of my mouth, then his hand inclosed over mine, warm and soft. His eyes fluttered open slightly confused as they found mine before his expression turned into surprise.

"You fell asleep on the couch," I enlightened him silently, pulling my hand back as he shifted on the couch and I was positive I heard a crack coming from his back.

"What time—" he started but trailed off and pushed himself up in a sitting position rubbing his face, my heart did a 360 by the sound of his voice. So deep and hoarse, thick with sleep and so damn sexy.

"What are you wearing?" He spoke up bringing me back to reality instead of dwelling on his perfection. His eyes now alert without a hint of tiredness, his features hardening leaving absolutely no trace of the boyish look his sleep had given him.

"I was going for a run, but then I found you here," I said and gestured for the couch.

"I really should be going," I added and got up from the table.
