235: To Impress

Shima Shita x Mina Rai:

Shima stood in the martial arts club room training with a training dummy by herself. She was focused on becoming the best in the class so she could impress someone more experienced than her. Not Budo, like most people would expect, but Mina. She had a small crush on Mina and was desperate to impress her. She continued training by herself, trying to become the best that she could be.

Months later, Shima felt she was finally ready to impress Mina. She had been training hard for months, and felt like she was finally at a level where she could impress her. She walked into the martial arts club room with her head held high.
"Hey Mina. I would like to challenge you to a sparring match. She said, trying to sound confident. Mina looked up at her with a smile.
"Sure. Let me just change into my GI then we can." She stood up and went into the changing booth, leaving behind her bag. Mina stood by it, avoiding all temptation to look into the bag. She respected Mina too much to do that to her. After a few minutes, Mina came out, ready to spar with Shima. She couldn't help thinking the GI made Mina look really pretty. "You ready?"
"Yeah. Let's do this." She smiled as they both stood on the rug, ready to spar. Before they could, Budo, Sho and Juku walked in. None of the boys spoke, sitting down by the wall to watch the girls.

Shima had her foot on Mina without it hurting, having beaten her. She looked very proud of herself, and the boys looked impressed with her. Mina on the other hand looked upset. She was in shock that she had been beaten in a martial arts competition. Shima took her foot off Mina's back and held her hand out to help her up. She was on the verge of tears. She refused the help, standing herself up and silently heading to the door. She stopped for a second, pulling off her martial arts headband and walking out of the room. She looked miserable and defeated.
"What happened?" Shima asked a little sadly once Mina was out of earshot. That certainly wasn't the reaction she'd been expecting or hoping for.
"I don't think she liked being beaten by someone younger than her." Sho said as he and the others stared at the discarded headband on the floor. She nodded her head, picking up the headband. It was identical to the others worn by her and the rest of the club members, except she had written her name in permanent master on the inside.
"I'm going to apologise to her." She picked up hers and Mina's bags before heading out of the room. She felt awful, and was determined to make it right with her crush. In her hand still was Mina's headband. Budo stood up and watched her leave. He remembered being in Shima'd shoes, but he hadn't made it right with his crush. He wished he had, though. He murmured a few words as soon as Shima was out of earshot.
"History is repeating himself..."
