Part 95

Two weeks later

Emily Prentiss' POV

I'm still at the hospital. I hadn't had the chance to hold my daughter yet. She is still under observation in the NICU. Everyone has visited me and I received a lot of presents for me and the baby. Also, Dave called me to warn me that he wasn't the Unit Chief anymore, he's my substitute. So once I'm back I can take back my place in Aaron's office.

A nurse arrives with a hospital crib. My daughter is in it.

"Mrs. Prentiss, do you want to try to breastfeed your daughter?"

"I... I... I can hold her? Really?"

"Yes, you can," the nurse smiles.

I sit straight up, ready to hold my daughter for the first time.

"But be careful. She's still very fragile and needs to be oxygenated because her lungs are not fully developed yet."

She carefully holds my daughter and passes her to me. I delicately hold her and I pull down my hospital jacket to breastfeed Lindsey. It's the first time I'm breastfeeding so I don't know what to expect. Before I can breastfeed her, she starts to cry. I try to calm her down, but I feel like I'm making it worse. I don't know what to do. The nurse takes my daughter back to calm her down. A few seconds later, Lindsey is back to calm.

"Do you wanna try again?"

I don't know. But I still nod. She passes me back my daughter and this time she stays calm. She stares at me and blindly looks for my nipple. I help her to find it. A few minutes later, she's finally suckling. I can't help but shed a few tears of joy. The nurse leaves, letting me with JJ and my daughter.

After only a few minutes, Lindsey is peacefully sleeping.

"She's so cute!"

Lindsey has her father's eyes and her mother's facial traits. She also has Aaron smile which was one of his best features. She has dark brown hair and deep brown eyes.

While sleeping, Lindsey is sometimes smiling, as if she is having a great dream.

"Soon, we'll come back home and we will be a family again," I tell her, gently passing my hand over her small head.
