Chapter 20

"Thanks Lexi. Britt I will be in the car." JJ said hinting that she was going to give us alone time and I nodded.
"Kaitlyn and Maddy told me everything that has happened to you." She said openly
"Its been a rough time ever since I met my birthmother." I laughed
"Im thinking about moving back to DC." She said looking at her hands
"Well its great. We live in Quantico now but Maddy and Kaitlyn still live in the city." I said standing up to sit next to her.
"Its going to be our five year anniversary this year. And I had a huge surprise for him." She said starting to get choked up
"What is it?" I asked knowing she would tell me
"Im pregnant." She said before breaking down and I pulled her into a hug
"I was going through his stuff and I found a letter and a small box. He wrote it out for me to read at dinner and was going to propose." She said still crying
"Its going to be ok." I said trying to calm her down
"You have the perfect life. You have a baby and you got married." She said trying to knock me down a peg
"Ive almost have died twice. Jacob almost relapsed and I got told last week that I cant have anymore kids." I said with a tear falling down my cheek.
"My life isnt that perfect." I said looking at her
"I didnt know that part." She said apologetic
"Because they didnt know." I said with a small smile
JJ came running back into the house panicked.
"Britt we need to take Lexi back to the station. A body was just found." She said as we stood there speechless
"Lexi go pack a bag. I dont know how long it will be for." JJ said making her run upstairs
"It was the first wife. The unsub is killing the wives now. Lexi might be next." She said looking at her phone
"Mom, shes pregnant. We need to protect her at all cost." I said peeking onto her phone seeing the picture of the wife
"Ok." Lexi said coming from the hallway with a Georgetown duffle bag from our soccer team

"So how was that Denver trip?" JJ asked knowing it would be one great story
"She doesnt know?" Lexi laughed and JJ looked at her in the rear view mirror
"No I dont. Does one of you care to explain?" She said as Lexi started laughing
"Britt is not the good girl you think she is." She started to say but started laughing before continuing
"So Jacob and her just started kindof dating. They were like the worlds awkwardest couple ever. Everyone knew they loved each but wouldnt admit it out loud. So, Dan and I set up this plan to go to Denver with all of our friends. The house we rented made us all share a room with someone. We left Jacob and Britt to be roommates to help them out." She said before I cut her off
"No, everyone planned this for us but little did everyone know we were already sleeping together." I said laughing
"Whatever, Britt wasnt a big drinker or partier freshman year so we were going to get her smashed. The first night we found her in the bathroom laying in Jacobs lap asleep. He took care of her drunk ass the whole time. The last night there was a firework show and they were being all cute and what not. So Dan and I left them to be and thats when he pretty much confessed his love to me and made our fling official. Jacob on the other hand started an argument and ended up saying he loved her and that night I dont think anyone got sleep." She laughed as I thought about that night
"But thats not even the best part. Remember when we made out." She laughed distracting JJ from driving and missing the exit
"Wait what!" She said looking at me
"We were drunk and were dared by everyone to make out. We are not ones to back down from a dare. That wasnt even the worse dare we did. There was that time we ran into the snow naked, but my favorite was standing and flashing cars as the drove by." She said laughing
"Brittney LaMontange." She said angrily
"Oh come on it was college." I laughed
"We werent that bad we did have our scary moments. I was there for her when she had her abortion." She said before I turned around giving her a look that I was about to kill her
"Lexi stop." I said sounding harsh
"We will need to have a long talk. Good thing we have to share a room." She said not removing her eyes from the road
"Did she not know? Does Jacob know?" She mouthed and I said no for both of them
"Oh shit. Sorry." She mouthed back as we pulled up to the station

We go over more information about the case and the team found out we were friends but allowed me to stay on the case.
"JJ and Britt you two okay staying together?" Hotch asked and we both said yes
"You two just werent talking like usual." He said looking at us carefully
"Who is Lexi staying with?" I asked changing the subject
"Lewis. Eight tomorrow morning." He said walking to a SUV

The ride to the hotel was silent with just the two of us. I could feel the tension and anger she had towards me. She was holding it in until we got to the hotel room.
"Britt." She said as I dropped my bag on a bed
"Yeah." I said removing my gun and placing it on the table.
"Safe." She said pointing to it
I listened and put it in there and she put hers in there
"Is it true?" She asked as my eyes started to get watery and I nodded
"Lets sit down and you explain it to me. I want the whole story. Do not leave anything out." She said as we went to sit at the small table that was in the room
