Why Do You Not Understand?

My family is always, ALWAYS, telling me that I need to study less. They tell me that I need to go out more. I need to socialize. I need to drive so I can go places and do things. I need to make real friends. I need to go out. I need to get out of the house. I need to hang out with people.

I have a term paper due in a week tho that's 25% of my already failing grade...

"Yo let's go see this Peter Pan play together!"

I'M BUSY TRYING TO MAKE A SOLID FUTURE FOR MYSELF. WHY CAN'T ANYONE SEE THAT!?

I know it's summer break and most everyone is off having fun, but I'm still in school.

But whatever. I caved. I wanted them to shut up so bad that I went and accepted a leading role in a movie.
Note: I'm acquaintances with the director of the film. I used to do this all the time about 2 years ago. He was still amateur back then. Now, though, he's shooting a real movie and I'll be getting an actual paycheck for this. It's not just fun and games, this is a job.

Yesterday was the first day of filming for me. He wanted to get solo shots. So I had to hang with him and his producer for a good 6 hours. (best believe I printed off a vocabulary list to study when we weren't doing anything)

So afterwards when Mom was driving me home and our conversation just really irked me.

Mom: "So... did you miss it?"

Me: "No."

Mom: "You didn't miss socializing and talking to people?"

Me: "No. My life has been fine without it."

Mom: "Really? You didn't miss hanging out with Seth and filming?"

Me: "Not really, no."

Mom:

Me:

Mom: "But you had fun didn't you?"

Me: "Well yeah."

Then mom's entire demeanor changed, like she had just proven something. She gave me this accomplished, shit-eating grin like

You missed socializing didn't you Kateri?

It was written all over her face, and I'm just sitting there like

Enjoying myself and missing something are two different things??? No, I didn't miss it. I feel completely indifferent about everything.

But you know what? At least I went out. So that means my folks should shut up now right?

Baba comes over at 2pm

Baba: "Wow you just got up?!"

Me: "Yup."

Baba: "Well you should come join us in the pool."

Me: "No, I gotta study."

Baba: "You should've studied yesterday before you left."

Me: "I wanted to, but I couldn't cause I spent the day getting ready."

Baba: "That just goes to show that you should go out more so that you can practice and be faster at getting ready!"

Me: *watching her walk away*
