Today, in my Cultural Anthropology class, my professor was giving his lecture on kinship (kinda like who we consider as family).
He went over kinship terminology (what we call our kin or family...). Like calling mother mother and father father, etc. The terminology systems actually get really complicated so I won't go in depth.
So my professor goes, "We Americans only distinguish mother, brother, father, and sister. Chinese and Korean terms have a term for every single sibling. So their older brother has a different term from their younger brother. Their oldest sister, etc. Your name and terms depend on when you were born in comparison with the rest of the family."
He went on trying to explain it and all. Of course, I caught on yo what he was talking about thanks to KDRAMA and K-pop. But I can see how it could make some people like
