While they were in the middle of the journey to King Raymond's palace, a thought crossed Ella's mind. She drew away the curtains of the carriage's window and called out to her father, ''Father, I want to ask you something.''
''What is it?'' her father replied keeping his eyes on the road while riding his white horse, Flakes.
''Someone asked you to bring me specifically along with you. Am I right?'' Ella said to her father.
''Yes your'e right.'' King Desmond replied.
''Who was it?''she asked, because she knew she was strong enough to protect herself, so it was not dangerous for her to be alone.
''Thomas said to bring you along, he said it was necessary.'' her question was replied by Aston. Without another word she drew the curtains back, so that she won't have to ask another question which will be answered by her brothers. It was nothing like she didn't want to talk to them, it was because she wanted them to realize their mistake.
After travelling for a long time they reached King Raymond's palace when it was nearly dusk. The palace was not hidden the way it was when Elbert came to receive them. Ella thought that Queen Harriet might have found a new way to secure the palace.
Thomas was pacing right to left at the entrance of the palace waiting impatiently for his uncle's family to arrive. He looked in their direction when he heard sound of hooves approaching. Queen Miranda was the first one to leave the carriage, she ran towards Thomas,
''Where is my sister? What happened to her?'' she asked frantically. Honestly, it was the second time Ella was watching her mother in this anxiety state. The first time was, when Ella had hit Aston accidentally with her powers and he was about to die.
''It's better that you all come inside.'' Thomas replied.
They all entered the palace and Thomas ordered the servants to take the guests' luggage to their rooms.
''Where is everyone?'' Aston asked as he looked around but no one was there.
''In the basement, mother is very ill so the nurses said to keep her in the medical chamber.'' Thomas replied.
''Oh, I wish she gets well soon.'' Queen Miranda said worriedly.
They went down the stairs that led to the medical chambers, the more they went down the more it got cold. The underground corridors were lighten up by torches fixed in the walls. Thomas was leading the way, they took many turns and passed many doors, when finally they came in front of a black door. Thomas knocked and opened the door without waiting for a reply. They all entered the room behind Thomas, Ella was the last one to enter.
Ella saw the scene like this,
There was a queen size bed in the center of the room on which a weak Queen Harriet was laying. On the right side of the bed was a tired looking King Raymond who was holding Queen Harriet's hand, and on the left side of the bed was a tearful Amber and beside her was a worried Eric.
The three of them looked at the door and greeted each other with silent looks. Finally the horrible silence wad broken by Ella's father,
"What happened to Harriet?" He asked saving the rest of them to ask the same question.
"Death Necklace." King Raymond replied looking back to his wife who was unconscious and touched her cheek gently.
Queen Miranda gave a loud sob and walked closer to her sister's bed, which was most certainly to become her death bed.
Ella looked at Eric, to her surprise he was already looking at her. She felt a pang of guilt when she thought about her cousins' condition, they must have been very depressed. 'Oh God! How am I going to make up to this.' She thought to herself.
