That afternoon you had nothing to do. Since you had literally just joined The Enterprise crew, you had no work. Everyone else was still doing their jobs while you wandered around. You ended up going to the lounge that you loved reading in.
As you sat down at the back table, where you normally would sit in any place like this, you opened the book. Every time you read Spock's book, you would try to be extra careful with it. You had noticed that when he gave it to you, it was in perfect condition. It had looked like he had never touched it, let alone read it. In any case, you did not want to be the one who put the first bend on a page, or dent in the cover.
It was about five minutes that you had to read until you name was called over the intercom.
"Lieutenant YL/N, please report to the bridge immediately."
You couldn't tell who the speaker was because of the commotion in the lounge, but if you were to be at the bridge, you knew it had to be of some kind of urgent matter. You sped down the hallway, making sure not to run into people.
As you got the lift, you had walked in and were about to call for the 'bridge'.
"Miss, Miss! Hold the lift, please!"
As you refrained from calling for the 'bridge' you looked out to see a very young looking man run into the lift with you.
"Thanks friend. Oh! I mean Lieutenant-"
                              He paused for your name.
                              "Lieutenant YL/N. Y/N YL/N."
You held out you hand for him to shake.
                              "Good, I'm Chekov. Pavel Chekov."
You could tell he mimicked the way you introduced yourself. You both smiled at each other. After that you called 'Bridge' finally.
"If I may ask, why are you going up to the bridge?"
"Oh, I was called to report there a couple minutes ago. I have no clue why that is though."
                              "That is a mystery."
The doors pushed open with the sound of air pressure being released.
"Captain, their is someone who said they had been called up."
The captain turned around in his chair. His eyes lit up a bit.
                              "Ah! Lieutenant YL/N!"
He got up and shook your hand. You never thought you would be able to shake Captain Kirks hand before.
"Alright, well. I have some good news for you Lieutenant. You know how you are basically equipped to do anything on this ship?"
                              "Yes, sir."
"Well, I had Spock read your report, and we both think that your skills would be just as useful outside of the ship."
He paused and waited for your excitement, but he continued explaining when he saw you were still confused.
"That means that you will now be apart of my current landing party. Does that sound good?"
Now he looked at you with hope that you would get excited at all. You did.
                              "Captain, I just...thank you!"
                              You paused and started thinking.
                              "Is something wrong with that?"
"No, Captain. Its just...I don't think I've had much training when it comes to being on other planets."
"I see. Well lieutenant, I guess that is what we call learning on the job. We do it often around here. Your first mission is actually today! We are visiting a little uninhabited planet called Detrex 9. Our scans have said that it is suppose to be pretty....friendly. Flowers, trees, some type of water that you shouldn't drink, it has it all!"
