CHERYL's POINT OF VIEWI woke up and I turned over to look at Tony. He was sound asleep. I went to go do my daily routine and when I came out of the bathroom, I woke Tony up. "What?" Tony said as he looked at me. "I'm about to go take Caiya to school." I said. "Ok? No need to tell me that." Tony said as he fluffed his pillow out and laid his head down in a comfortable position. I just walked away without saying anything because I was trying my hardest to at least have a good morning. I went to go wake my baby up and get her ready to go to school. "Sweet Caiya....wake up, baby girl." I said as I moved her a little. "I don't wanna go to school." Caiya said as she started whining. "Come on. Get up. I'm gonna go make you your favorite, okay? Blueberry waffles? Sounds good?" I asked her as I walked towards the door. "Yes. I'll get up." She said in a grumpy voice. "Brush you teeth, wash your face and your clothes are right there." I said as I went downstairs to go to the kitchen. I got everything out and started to make her favorite. I turned around and saw Tony coming down the stairs. "Morning." I said as I looked up at him and then continued to make Cai's waffles. "Morning..." Tony said as he poured himself some orange juice. "Do you want a waffle?" I asked Tony. "You know that I don't eat that." Tony said as he looked at me. "Just asking. Do you want anything else then?" I asked him. "Cheryl. I'm fine...." Tony said. I just continued what I was doing. "Ayeee, hello beautiful! Ready for school?" Tony asked Caiya as she came downstairs with a huge smile. "Yep!" She said as she hugged him. "Did you brush your teeth?" I asked her. "Yes mommy. I'm a big girl now." Cai said as she looked at me. I just laughed a small laugh. "Ok boo, go and sit down at the table. Please, try not to waste nothing on your clothes for Mommy, okay?" I said as I put her food on her plate. "Your bacon is almost done. Here's your waffle and fruit." I said as I gave it to her. "Thank you." Caiya said as she smiled. "You're welcome, sweetheart." I said as I smiled. "Cheryl, did you see this bill? Why am I just now seeing it?" Tony asked me as he looked at the paper. "Ummm, I knew about it and I was going to take care of it myself." I said as I cooked the bacon. "I can take care of it." Tony said. "Tony.....I got it. I was going to pay it today. Stop stressing about it." I said as I turned to look at him. "Cheryl!" Tony said as he looked at me. I looked at him and then back at Caiya. "Tony, this isn't the right time to talk about this, okay?" I said as I whispered and gave him a look. "I need to talk about this right now." Tony said. I gave Caiya her bacon. Tony and I stepped out of the room. "Tony, I do not want to argue in front of Caiya. You know this." I said as I started to get frustrated. "I know that. I'm just saying....you act like I can't handle the bills. We agreed that I would handle them." Tony said as he looked at me. "Tony, I told you that I can handle it. I will handle it!" I said. "Cheryl, why do you always have to make every situation difficult?" Tony said as he slightly raised his voice. "Hey! Lower your voice. Our child is in the next room. Do you really want her to hear us arguing?" I said. Tony was silent. "Fine. Fine....take care of the damn bill. Go take my child to school." Tony said as he handed me the bill. "Thank you." I said as I folded the paper and went to go check up on Caiya. "Hey! You ready?" I asked Caiya. "Yes, I'm ready." Cai said. "Ok....let's go." I said as I grabbed my purse and opened the front door. Caiya ran to the car and opened the door. We both got in the car and buckled up. "Letsssss go." I said as I smiled at her. She smiled back at me. As I began driving I asked Cai some questions. "How are your friends? Are they nice?" I asked her. "Yes...they are. One girl can sometimes be mean but I just stay away from her." Caiya said as she looked out the window. "Oh really? Well, if you have any problems- Let Mommy and Daddy know ok? We will definitely take care of it." I said as I got serious. "I know Mommy." She said in a sweet voice. "Ok, we are here." I said as I got out of the car and opened the door for Caiya. "Come on. Hold my hand." I said as I looked down at her. She held my hand and we walked across to her classroom. "Have a great day, ok?" I said as I leaned down to kiss her on her cheek and fixed her shirt. "Ok. Bye Mommy." Caiya said. "It's not bye. It's see you later, ok?" I said as I smiled. She sighed. "See you later." Caiya said as she then laughed. I smiled at her. I made my way back to the car and got a phone call. "Heyyyy, my main man. What are you up to?" I asked Shemar. "Wassup, baby girl. I'm doing nothing. I was calling to see if everything was ok with you?" Shemar said. "Oh, I'm doing fine." I said as I buckled my seatbelt. "Come on, Cheryl. Be honest with me. The last time we talking, you were crying because of something Tony said." Shemar said in a concerned voice. "Umm, Well- things are somewhat better than the last time we talked. We should be going to counseling today. Ya know, just to see if it will help somehow." I said. "Well, I hope that it does. You know that I'm your man if you need somebody to beat his ass." Shemar said as he laughed. "I know!" I said as I smiled. "It's wat best friend do." Shemar said. "You're crazy. Well, I just dropped off Caiya and now I'm about to get on this road. Talk to you later?" I asked him. "Definitely. My line is always open for you. Drive safely and talk to you later." Shemar said. "Ok. Talk to you later." I said and then we both hung up the phone. I drove home and opened the front door. "Hey." I said as I saw Tony. "Hi." Tony said. I put my purse down and started cleaning up a little. "Did you pay the bill?" Tony asked me. I froze. "Shit!" I said as I rushed over to get the paper out of my purse. "See, and this is why I wanted to take care of it. I wouldn't have forgotten." Tony said as he took the paper from me. "It was an accident. I just forgot." I said as I looked at him. "Cheryl, I told you to let me take care of it in the first place. I don't understand how hard it is. You have other shit to do anyways. Let me handle this stuff." Tony said. "Just calm down." I said as I looked at him. "Calm down? You act like this shit isn't important. I'm going to pay it." Tony said. "Ok. Pay it! Doesn't matter anyways." I said as I sat on the couch. Tony just shook his head. "When is the appointment?" Tony asked me. "I haven't called yet." I said. "Doesn't it make sense to call now? You should have been called since this is so important to you." Tony said as he looked at the bill. "Get off my back. You always have something stupid to say. I got this. I'm a grown ass woman." I said as I stood up. "A grown ass woman who doesn't know how to get her shit together." Tony said. "Excuse me?" I said as I walked over towards him. "You heard me and don't walk up on me like that, Cheryl." Tony said. "I have my shit together. Trust me. You're the only thing left that I need to get out of my life." I said as my feelings began to get hurt. "You can't get me out of your life. We have a daughter, remember? That was even an accident." Tony said. "She was not an accident. She was meant to be here. Sadly, she ended up with a heartless father." I said as I started to get upset. "I know that she was meant to be here. It was my fault choosing you, to be honest. Horrible Mother." Tony said. "Now....Now, you're going too far. That really hurt. I am a great Mother. What in the hell are you talking about?" I asked him as I started to tear up. "Ok. Ok. That was too far." Tony said as he started laughing. He then saw that I was crying and he surprisingly started to feel bad. "I'll call them now." I said as I wiped my tears and went upstairs. "Cheryl, I.....I didn't mean that." Tony said as he watched me leave. I made my way into the room and called to make an appointment. I went back downstairs afterwards. "They said the next opening is in 30 minutes. Come on so that we can make it." I said in a sad voice and opened the front door. "Alright." Tony said as he followed behind me. We were both silent the entire ride there. We made it and we sat down as we waited for them to be ready for us. We saw other couples there and they looked very unhappy. One couple even sat on the opposite side of the room from each other. "Grants?" A woman said as she called for us. We got up and made our way into her office. It was very cozy and the lights were mild. A very trustworthy place to come and talk about every and anything. "Have a seat. My name is Jade Marcel. Tell me about your problems." She said as she sat down and took out a notebook. I looked over at Tony. "Go. Start first." Tony said as he slouched down in his seat. "Well, I wanted us to come to Marriage counseling because I wanted us to get closer. We have a daughter and her name is Caiya. We never argue in front of her because I absolutely refuse to do so. We have before and that didn't go well at all. Caiya literally stopped talking for a week. We had to sit down and talk to her about how much we loved each other, but we were faking it all. We didn't love each other. Im only staying in this marriage because of my daughter needing to be in a home with both of her parents." I explained. "Tony, what do you have to say about this?" She asked him. He looked upset. "I don't care if she's only in this marriage because of Caiya." Tony said as he tapped his fingers on the chair. "So, are you just saying that in defense of not getting your feelings hurt?" Jade asked. Tony was silent. "Tony?" Jade asked. "Why in the hell are we here, Cheryl? We obviously can't fix shit." Tony said angrily. "I want to fix this marriage!" I said as I turned to look at him. "Fix? We can't fix this shit. I cheated ok?! Let it go. I had sex with another woman and I also fell in love with her. I should have left your ass and married her. And I should have just taken Caiya away from you. " Tony said as he raised his voice. "Calm down. Cheryl, are you ok?" Jade asked as she saw me crying. I continued to cry. I then took a tissue and wiped my eyes. "I....I don't know. The shit that he says. It hurts." I said as I looked away. "Tony, are you aware of what you just said? Think about how Cheryl feels. You just openly admitted something very hurtful." Jade said. "I know. She just pushes me over the edge sometimes and I can't handle it." Tony said. "How about how do you feel?" Jade asked Tony. "I feel like.....like, I'm not good enough sometimes. She put me last and I didn't know how to handle that. I wanted to be her best friend. She put everyone before me. I'm just sitting back like, where do I fit in? Back then I didn't feel like you even want a husband. All the plays and Black Velvet Monday's. She comes home after all of that so I talked to her and said..."Baby, spend time with me." Or "Baby, let me run you some bath water and I'll be right there with you." Oh yeah and, "Baby, just let me make love to you." BUT you know what I got? "Not tonight Tony. I'm tired." Tony said as he looked at me and mocked my voice at the last sentence he said. "I've apologized a million times. What more do you want me to do? I even denied a play just to stay home with you and my child." I said. "See, and she says "my child." like she's the only parent." Tony said. "Both of you. It's obvious that you two still love each other. You just need to make time and spend time with each other. You say that you're doing this for your child but you're hurting yourselves so much. You can fix this. There might be some times when you wanna give up and move on with your lives. You can't do that. I can see the love still. I have something that I want the two of you to do. Go home. Sit down together. Face each other, okay? Then, hold each other's hands, look at each other in the eyes and tell each other things that you love about each other. Come back tomorrow and we will talk about how it went, okay?" Jade said. We shook our heads. "See you all tomorrow." Jade said as she walked us back to the front. We said our goodbyes and got in the car. We were quiet the entire way there. We got home and sat down with each other. I held his hand and he held mines. I looked into his eyes and he looked into mines. "Cheryl, I love your pure heart. You're sweet when it comes to caring for others." Tony said. I smiled and blushed a little. "Tony, you're very protective and open hearted. I love that about you." I said as I smiled at him. "I love how determined you are. You never back down. When you want something....you go and get it." Tony said. I started smiling. "Tony, you were once my best friend. I love your goofiness. You're yourself. I hope that you know that I still love you." I said as I held his hand tighter. Tony then leaned in to kiss me. I kissed him back. He hasn't kissed me in months. His lips were still soft and inviting. He then picked me up and we went upstairs. "I'm sorry." He said as he kissed my neck. "I'm sorry too. We have an hour." I said as I took off his shirt. He then made love to me like he never had before. We haven't had sex in over a year. I was just happy to feel his touch again. I still love him.
