Chapter 37- Sustenance

Peter Parker and Venus Deterzo laid back on the couch at their apartment exhausted. "Between being Spider-Man and doing photos for the Daily Byte," sighed Peter. "It feels good to relax." Venus agreed, "Yeah, we really haven't had time for ourselves. You think the landlord downstairs is still mad about what happened?" He replied, "I'm sure he'll get over it. You heard from Hector?" She replied, "Said he's still searching for that symbiote from the train station. Somehow I have a feeling she isn't with Spider-Carnage." Venus turned to see her boyfriend and asked, "Do you think a symbiote is capable of being good?" Peter nodded, "I hope so. After what happened with your clone and everything, maybe there's a chance."

Meanwhile At Atlantic City...
Several Bestial in swimwear walked around when suddenly a horse Bestial with a rodent Bestial were on a speeder bike dashing out of a restricted area. "Step on it! Step on it!" cried the rodent Bestial. "We're gonna fry for this! They're gonna start dragging us back to that lab and start poking us with-!" The horse Bestial snapped, "Quiet! Freddie, do you think I'm gonna go through that again? No way!" Lady Ursula led Machine Men and Public Eye officers after the two fugitive Bestials. She sighed, "Those mothballs... do they not realize that no one escapes from this place." The Machine Men and Public Eye began blasting at them. One of them managed to shoot the speeder bike the two fugitive Bestials were on. It went out of control as Freddie fell into the ocean and a Machine Man captured him. The horse Bestial tried to control his ride but he ended sailing toward the sand and the speeder bike crashed. The horse Bestial tumbled on the sand as the Lady Ursula and her forces began to descend toward him. "No way they're sending me back to that freak factory!" declared the horse Bestial as he began to run. The next thing he knew was that he was being dragged into the sand. Lady Ursula muttered, "The High Evolutionary will not be pleased." She and her forces flew away back to the facility at Atlantic City.

Peter And Venus's Apartment
The couple began making Aunt May's recipe of cinnamon French Toast. Venus saw their friend Green Goblin knocking on their window. She rushed to the window and opened it as he got inside. "I got news," said Green Goblin. "But it's not about the symbiote Venus wants me to find." Peter came over and asked, "What's it about, Hector?" He answered, "I was in my investigation to find that symbiote when I saw Lady Ursula chasing after two Bestials in Atlantic City. Next thing that happened was one of 'em sinking into the sand." Peter joked, "You checked if he sank into quicksand?" Green Goblin nodded, "Yes, I did. Except you can't find quicksand on a beach. And there's no sandman." Venus muttered, "So much for cinnamon French Toast." She went over to find her bullwhip as Peter changed into his Spider-Man suit.

Meanwhile At Atlantic City...
"Who dares to stand before me and admit such incompetence?" growled the High Evolutionary. Lady Ursula answered, "The guards allowed the sky bike to be stolen and paid the price, sire. We recovered one escapee." The High Evolutionary gritted, "While the other finds refuge underground." She offered, "We'll have a sweep through the caverns..." He interrupted, "You'll uncover nothing. Never does. The day will come when I exterminate those underground pests. But for now my work takes presence."

Spider-Man, Venus, and Green Goblin hitched a ride on an aerial blue truck as they looked around to find a bus going to Atlantic City. Spider-Man's senses alerted him when he saw a male cat Bestial on an aerial motorcycle fly over them. The three ducked as Venus grumbled, "Doesn't anybody around here know how to drive?" Green Goblin spotted an Atlantic City bus and smiled, "Found our bus." Green Goblin flew up as Venus held onto Spider-Man while he spun a two web lines and slingshot themselves to the bus.

The three made to Atlantic City as Venus asked, "So, Gobby? Did you see where Ursula went off to?" Green Goblin nodded, "Yeah. Some dome facility that is way outta place for the vacation part of a city like this." They landed on a building across the street of the dome building as Spider-Man wondered, "No doors, no windows. How does everybody get around in that place?" His spider sense tingled as he turned to see two raccoon Bestials on a blue flying car blasting them. "You aren't allowed here," said one of them with arrogance. "By order of Lady Ursula, surrender." Venus twirled her whip and shielded them from the blasts as Green Goblin flew up. "Lady Ursula," exaggerated Green Goblin. "I can't stand it!" He threw a pumpkin bomb on the hood making the raccoon Bestials land on the roof. Spider-Man entangled one with his webbing and quipped, "Sorry, but we don't take orders from buffoons!" Green Goblin laughed, "No, not buffoons! They're raccoons!" He threw a bat at the other raccoon Bestial and it blew knockout gas. Green Goblin added, "Now he's a cocooned raccoon. Haha!" Venus frowned, "Can you boys stop with your dumb jokes?" Green Goblin nodded, "Okay, so that place I don't know much about, but I do know this: every Bestial is afraid of it." Spider-Man asked, "Why?" Green Goblin answered, "Rumor is the High Evolutionary has something special going on inside. Entrance is by invitation only." Spider-Man asked, "As in arrested?" Green Goblin replied, "Only if you comply. The guests never leave." One of the raccoon Bestials got up and staggered to the car. He pressed a button as skylights lit up and alarms sounded. A garage door opened on the facility as a Machine Man tank strolled and began blasting missiles at the three. Green Goblin threw pumpkin bombs at the tank while exclaiming, "Hey, roller boy! What do you say for a pumpkin surprise?" The bombs had little affect on the tank as it shot hard balls at him. That made Green Goblin crash onto the ground as the tank was about to squish him. Venus quickly dashed to rescue him as Spider-Man went over and webbed up the wheels on the treads. He helped her pick Green Goblin up and began running. The tank used mini buzzsaws to shred the webs off and pursued after them. Then out of nowhere, the ground opened up on the three and felt getting pulled down underground.
