Chapter 25- Deadly Choices

Peter Parker returned from grocery shopping and entered inside his apartment where he saw Venus Deterzo sad. He walked up to her and asked softly, "Hey Venus, what's wrong?" She showed him a piece of printed paper and answered, "Our week is up. We have to be able to pay for our rent or we might have to move away." Peter muttered, "Oh, man. We were so busy with the mystical fragments that I couldn't find time for a job." Venus asked, "What are we going to do?" Peter shrugged, "Some miracle, I guess." He pulled out a Daily Byte newspaper and looked at the front page. Peter's eyes widened as he smiled, "I think I found our miracle." Venus peered at the newspaper and saw the cover: Cash Money For A Picture Of Spider-Man And His Team! She asked, "Are you sure about this?" He answered, "Hey, the humans and Faunus here are looking at us as a symbol of hope. What better way than raising their hopes than being on the newspaper?" Venus nodded, "And it might help us keep living here until we stop the High Evolutionary and the rogue symbiotes." Peter strokes her cheek and assured, "Hey, we agreed to have a home together in our engagement. Maybe one day we'll get married and have little kittens of our own. Not saying it'll happen now, but maybe one day." Venus smiles as she kisses him and lets go. "Sometimes you're just so corny," sighed Venus. "But I love you."

Flashback to 10 years ago, The Basement, Counter-Vale
During one day in the festive holiday season, an eight-year-old Git Hoskins was homeless but never forgot the holiday season. After he put up Star a pawn an evergreen tree, Git looked at a picture of them self when it was a simpler time before the High Evolutionary took over with his Machine Men and Bestials. Suddenly the wind blew away the star and Git chased after it. The star landed on a puddle and Git picked it up. That was then when Git first met Doctor Ram before he became a Bestial. Git kindly offered him a piece of candy but Doctor Ram threw it on the puddle and kidnapped him, taking him to Alchemax.

Present Day, Alchemax At Sir Ram's Lab
Lord Tyger listened as Lady Vermin reported, "The report is confirmed, my Lord. The mutagen Z-59 has been stolen by the level 5 laboratory. We suspect the Resistance and particularly one known as Git Hoskins." She handed him a bandage as he said, "I fear the master will singe us all." Lord Tyger looked away as Lady Vermin walked away.

Meanwhile at the Basement
An 18-year-old Git Hoskins was being pursued by Machine Men. He accidentally slipped on a roller skate as the Machine Men targeted them and said, "Eliminating target." Sir Ram ordered, "Do not fire. I would preserve him if possible. I have much invested in this specimen." Git glared at him as Sir Ram continued, "Git Hoskins, you cannot comprehend the danger you may have unleashed. For the good of all human, Faunus, and Bestial alike, return that to me!" Git got up and offered a piece of candy to Sir Ram like he did ten years ago. In response Sir Ram tried to slap it away but found his hand to be covered in pink sticky gum. That diversion made Git run for it. "Machine Men," commanded Sir Ram. "Stop him! Stop him at all costs! Even if you must destroy him!" Then the Machine Men began to chase after Git as Sir Ram got his hands free.

Team SVRN had a meeting together on a rooftop. "You want us to do what exactly?" asked Ricochet. Spider-Man replied, "Take pictures of us in action. The people in the Basement have started seeing us as a symbol of hope. Heck, the Daily Byte wants pictures of us together." Ricochet reminded, "Still, it sounds a little silly to me. What're you getting out of this?" Nightingale smiled, "We are certain you would look splendid on a newspaper." He shrugged, "I dunno. I mean Spidey's the leader and all, but are you sure you wanna go for this?" Nightingale answered, "If it will help our teammates and friends continue their lodging, then we will. And you will do it too, Jonathan. Even we have to pull your ear to do it." Venus and Nightingale giggled as Ricochet sighed, "Fine... But how is Spidey going to fight crime with us and take pictures at the same time?" Then a hovering robotic spider with a camera lens flew up to him as Spider-Man answered, "Say hello to my little friend." Ricochet nodded, "All right, you figured that part out but where are we going to find crime to fight?" That was then when Team SVRN saw Git Hoskins fighting Machine Men.

Git was on a flying Machine Men's back as he used his bandages to tamper with the robot. That made the Machine Man crash down on the street and Git roll down on the pavement. A cylinder device dropped from his grasp as another Machine Man headed toward Git. Spider-Man swung down and kicked the robot away from Git. "Hope you don't mind if we cut in?" asked Spider-Man as his teammates came to him. "Git, you better tell us what this is about or you're really going to need those bandages," said Ricochet before he and Spider-Man sensed danger from a damaged Machine Man about to blast them. Spider-Man pushed Git away and Team SVRN scattered before the laser could get them. The team turned to face the Machine Man as it droningly ordered, "Surrender now."
