Peter and Venus's Apartment, One Day Later
Peter Parker and Venus Deterzo brought in Scream and with Nightingale and Calypso's help they nursed the yellow, black, and red female symbiote back to health. Right now Scream was eating a candy bar when Venus sat next to her and asked, "Why did you run away when I saw you at that train station?" Scream gulped the candy and answered, "I was scared... of coming back to the High Evolutionary so he could extract my spores for his Bestial formula. I thought you were going to take me to him." Venus assured, "No one is going to take you to the High Evolutionary, okay? My team and I are going to stop him." Scream asked, "What about my mother and brothers and sister and cousin? They're trying to look for me so I can join in taking over the world." Nightingale came in and replied, "You do not have to go this path." Scream shrugged, "It's all I know. It's all the symbiotes have ever known." Venus replied, "You're your own person and you don't have to do what other symbiotes do." Scream gave this some thought as Venus placed a hand on her shoulder.

Peter Parker and Johnny Gallo were out at a church watching several kids and their parents ice skating on a frozen water puddle in a basketball court. Johnny smiled, "In a world that scorns, they learn how to improvise." Peter agreed, "So every winter the local church turns its basketball court into a poor man's Rockefeller center. It's not much but it gives budding olympians some Counter-Vale hope." He snapped a picture of a few children as Peter's boss Mr. Meugniot came over and scoffed, "Parker, you've got to be kidding me." Peter asked, "What? You got something against human interest stories?" Meugniot replied, "I don't want human interest stories. I want stories that interest humans. Action, romance." Johnny shook his head as he took a glance at a familiar redhead walking to the cemetery.

Karen O'Malley walked over to her parents' gravestones and said, "Hi Mom. Hi Dad. I know I haven't been here in a long time. I could tell you it's just dangerous to be out in the open, but the truth is I don't know why I do." She places a rose in between the gravestones and added, "Maybe it's because it's too painful to see you like this. I always think of you and I always remember." Suddenly two familiar robotic voices said, "Karen O'Malley. You're under arrest for crimes against Counter-Vale. Surrender now." Karen looked up to see two Machine Men and retorted, "I don't think so!"

She pulled out her blaster and everyone at the court took notice. The reverend ran to toward Karen as Peter thought, 'This can't be good.' Meugnoit pointed, "Now that's what sells newspapers! Get in there, Parker!"

One of the Machine Men shot Karen's weapon off of her hand as the robot descended down to grab her. Karen turned to run but tripped and grabbed her signature knives. She threw them at the Machine Man as the knife handle directly hit the chest and Karen threw the robot on the ground. The second Machine Man shot at her as Karen dashed off while dodging the laser fire. She leaped onto the fence and threw more knives at the robot but were blasted away. Karen went to lunge at the Machine Man and punched it on the ground in midair. Karen started to run but the first Machine Man flanked her and she fell on her back. The Machine Man towered over Karen and went to grab her but the reverend bravely blocked the Machine Man. "Leave her alone!"

Meugnoit glared, "What are you waiting for, Parker? Go!" Then Peter and Johnny began running.

Karen ran off as the second Machine Man threw the reverend off to the side as the first robot was about to step on the reverend. That was then until Peter and Johnny came in. "No!" exclaimed Peter as he then pushed the reverend from the Machine Man's foot. Unfortunately Peter's wasn't so lucky. Johnny helped both of them get up as Karen struggled in the second Machine Man's grip. "Let go of me, you bag of bolts!" shouted Karen. The robot didn't listen as it flew up in the air and sprayed knock out gas on her face. Johnny went run after them but the first Machine Man blasted a laser in front of him which made him fall on his back. Then the first Machine Man went to follow the other one. Peter put the reverend on the fence as he helped his friend get back up. The two went to him and Peter asked, "Reverend, are you all right?" He nodded, "Yes, thanks to you. I'm not sure if I can say the same for the young lady." Johnny sighed, "It's my fault. I shouldn't have hesitated." The reverend reassured, "Don't be disappointed in yourself, my sons. You did your best." Peter shrugged, "Did we? We could do better." Meugnoit went over to them carrying Peter's broken camera and added, "While you're at it, do us both a favor and get a new camera. I need pictures."

Later, Spider-Man and Ricochet swung around Counter-Vale looking for the Machine Men but with no avail. "Wonder how Jameson is going to take the news?" wondered Ricochet. Spider-Man replied, "Guess he's gonna have more than blasters in his mind and I can't say I blame him."

Rebel Headquarters, Much Later
John Jameson demanded, "What?!" Spider-Man shrugged, "We lost them. She could be anywhere by now." John wasn't alone on this. There was also Daniel Bromley, Git Hoskins, and X-51. "I never should've let her go out alone," said John. "If anything happens to her..." He turned to Bromley and ordered, "Check every resource. I want her found." Bromley nodded, "You got it, gov." He left as X-51 said, "John Jameson, I've formulated a plan to find Karen O'Malley's whereabouts but requires assistance." John agreed, "Do whatever it takes." Git nodded as Spider-Man offered, "I blew the rescue, now it's time for your local Spider-Man to help you." John nodded, "And that's what you better do."
