Chapter 38- Sustenance Part 2

Spider-Man, Venus Deterzo, and Green Goblin fell down in an underground cave as they were surrounded by several multicolored cloaked figures. "Let me guess," said Spider-Man to a blue cloaked figure. "Mr. X?" The figure took off his hood and revealing to be the horse Bestial who smiled, "Sorry. Name's Lester." The three looked around to see the cloaked figures took off their hoods as well revealing to be Bestials. Though some of them weren't exactly as defined as the normal Bestials they encountered. One notable one was a female mole Bestial who claimed, "Good trick, huh? Digging's not so bad, but covering the holes does a number on my nails." Green Goblin chuckled, "Somebody call a baseball team. I'm sure she wouldn't have trouble catching fly balls." Venus asked, "Who are you guys?" Lester replied, "Can't ya tell? We're rejects." The mole Bestial added, "Pre-Ma can explain all to you." The three looked at each other with a question of who is this Pre-Ma.

Spider-Man, Venus, and Green Goblin walked with the Rejects until they met up with a giant female butterfly Bestial. She greeted, "Welcome. I assume you have questions." Green Goblin replied, "Just one. Where is the nearest exit?" Venus frowned at him as Spider-Man said, "And people call me a wise guy." He turned to see the butterfly Bestial and asked, "Basically what I want to know, what is all this?"

Pre-Ma explained, "It all begins up there in ten yards of earth and concrete. The dome above us is unwillingly populated with our kind. Genetic failures who have been wretched from their homes and forced to toil in the High Evolutionary's most secret of laboratories. Where he creates the very building blocks out of which new Bestials are formed. When we grow too old or too weak to perform, we are brought to Lab 1 for recycling. From time to time some of us managed to escape. Using the skills of Alice Liddell, we have made a home down here. Away from the pain of captivity but close enough to those still in need."

Spider-Man commented, "Sounds like a very unpeaceful coexistence." Pre-Ma nodded, "I'm very hopeful that you must change that." Green Goblin nodded, "Oh, first they save you then they use you. Are you sure you're not human?" Pre-Ma answered, "Very sure. But your value to us is..." Spider-Man said, "Uh-oh. When a human or Faunus use that tone, something bad happens." Pre-Ma continued, "We're hoping for good. The Goblin, Spider-Man, and the Chimera cat Faunus: the three most wanted criminals on this city. In his exchange to stop the suffering, we are you to turn you over to the High Evolutionary." Then the Rejects grabbed him as Venus offered, "Can't we just take a vote on this?" Pre-Ma answered, "We just did. Take them now." The Rejects cuffed them as they went on their way to the facility.

The Rejects snuck inside the facility with the still cuffed Spider-Man, Venus, and Green Goblin. They looked through a barred fan where the High Evolutionary was hard at work on something with machine. Finally it started as the machine opened and revealed empty clothes of what used to be Freddie. The rodent Bestial DNA was put into a vial where it was added to many other vials of Bestial serum. Spider-Man wondered, "Is it me or is he doing what I think he's doing?" The mole Bestial nodded gravely, "We must save our brethren from their DNA element." Lester added, "He uses it to create nutritional elements to create a new generation of Bestials." Green Goblin commented, "A sip a day keeps the doctor away." Venus gagged at the sight of it as Spider-Man said, "This has to be stopped." He broke out of his cuffs as two Rejects tried to hold him but Spider-Man pushed them away. "Do you think a guy like the High Evolutionary would barter with you?" asked Spider-Man. The mole Bestial replied, "We have no other options." Venus assured, "Sure you do. Me, Greenie, and my web-slinging tiger. Not in the way Pre-Ma was thinking." Green Goblin asked, "What do we do?" Spider-Man suggested, "Maybe we can get to the center of the dome and destroy this lab ourselves." Green Goblin asked, "Did I just hear you say, 'we'?" The web-slinger answered, "Yes, because there's one reason why the High Evolutionary is after us: he's afraid." The mole Bestial asked, "What about we get back to Pre-Ma? She's so much more wiser." Lester replied, "I haven't had the chance to run away from it all now. He didn't. That must count for something." The mole Bestial wondered for a moment before agreeing, "Follow me." She led them as Venus and Green Goblin were released from their bondage. Little did they know they activated a motion detector.

In the High Evolutionary's lab, the computer screen flickered on as Lady Ursula reported, "Excuse me, your highness. Our sensors detected intruders." The High Evolutionary replied, "My dear Ursula, I am engaged in a delicate operation here. Bad chromosomes must be discarded. Good ones bonded together." She nodded, "My humble apologies, but..." He ordered, "See where these intruders are headed and destroy them! Unless I decide the fitness of your DNA." Lady Ursula gulped in fear of the idea of becoming recycled.
