Chapter 35

"What are you doing here?" I asked as he put me down
"Well we havent seen each other in a month and a half. And your momma called and invited me to Thanksgiving and I couldnt say no." He said pulling me into a hug
"What about your family?" I asked knowing he should be with them
"Tony is with Sue, Grace is with her new boyfriend and his family and my mom decided to take a cruise. So I am all yours." He said kissing my forehead
"We can spend Christmas with your family." I said before we got interrupted by Holly
"Uncle Will!" She yelled hugging his legs
"Little one" He said loudly picking her up
"We got her good." She said laughing
"Yes we did." He said tickling her and making her laugh even more
"Thanks mom." I said giving her a hug
"Anything for you." She said kissing my forehead
"You must be Katie. Im Will." Will said introducing himself to her
"Nice to finally meet you. Holly talks a lot about you two." She said shaking his hand
"Katie they are getting married." Holly said as everyone turned and looked at us
"Not yet anyway." Will said as I stood there speechless
"So are you?" Shelby asked looking at me
"No. We have decided to wait." I said not lying because thats what we both decided on
"But Uncle Will said...." Holly started to say but Will put his hand over her mouth
"I think thats enough little one." He said laughing away the awkwardness and nodded to go upstairs

"So what did Uncle Will say?" I asked getting into my room
"All I said was one day we will be. Shes seven Jenn. Of course she would think it would be so soon." He said pulling me into a hug
"I know but I like where we are except for the distance." I said trying to get closer to him if it was possible
"And we will work on that. The MPD is hiring detectives. I can always put a transfer in." He said making me pull away
"No, Will. I cant make you leave your family to move up here." I said sitting on my bed
"Darlin I would walk to Thailand barefoot and back for you." He said making me laugh at that night we worked the case in the Quarter
"Can we talk about it later?" I asked before getting interrupted
"Stop having sex. Mom said dinner is being served." Shelby said banging on my door
"Im going to kill her." I said standing up and opening the door
"Your dead." I said before chasing her downstairs

"So does this always happen?" Will asked seeing me sitting on Shelby at the table
"Yes, sadly. They always fight over this spot every family dinner." Nate said
"I was here first Jenny!" Shelby yelled as she tried to move me off of her
"Im the oldest." I said trying to put more weight on her
"Shelby Jennifer knock it off." Mom said walking into the dinning room
"I will once Shelby gets off my chair." I said still not budging
"Mom I sat here first." Shelby said pleading
"Shelby thats Jenns seat at the table." Mom said making me stand up and push her off
"Thats not fair." She said huffing and moving to the otherside in between Holly and Katie
"So whats the deal over the seat?" Katie asked as we passed around Will cajun chicken, pasta and salad
"Does she know?" I asked Nate who was now the head of the table as he nodded yes
"The seat next to me is Roz's seat. We always sat next to each other at dinner growing up." I said nodding to the empty seat on my left
"We fight over it because we always did growing up. We both always wanted to sit next to Roz so we still fight to this day." Shelby said upset she lost the seat
"No fighting tomorrow. The pastor, his family and our families are all coming over tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner." Mom said making it clear
"Uhg really." Shelby said
"Nate told me you have the hots for the pastors son." I said mocking Shelby
"No one wants a girl who was R-A-P-E-D." She said spelling it out and moving her food around
"Can I finish in my room?" She asked looking at mom and she nodded yes.
"Go." Mom said to me as I watched Shelby leave

"Its me." I said knocking on her door and walking in
"I hate Nate." She not looking up from her phone
"Ya. I do to sometimes." I said sitting next to her
"Hes going away forever. I promise." I said as she rested her head on my shoulder
"How is his trial going?" She asked
"Good. Ive been to both of his hearings and hes not coming out of jail ever. I promise." I said kissing her head
"Can we go back down?" She asked and I nodded yes

"Welcome back." Nate said sarcastically earning him a slap on the back of the head from the both of us
"So Katie why do you like him?" Shelby asked earning a grin from me and Will
"I mean hes an amazing dad and very sweet and kind." She said getting a laugh from me and Shelby
"You two shut up or I will tell Will embarrassing stories." Nate said getting angry
"What ever. So do you want to join me and Shelby for our Black Friday shopping event?" I asked
"Yeah that sounds like fun. And I can get to know you two better." She said smiling
"You and shopping. Im not going." Will said putting his hand on my thigh
"Good cause you werent invited." Shelby said
"Can I go?" Holly asked with a mouth full of food
"No they are going out past your bedtime. Im sorry sweetie." My mom said as Holly looked sad

Dinner finished up and Holly, Nate and Katie left
"So Shelby who is this guy you are interested in?" Will asked as we sat on the couch and Shelby sat in a chair across from us giving Will the middle finger
"Sounds serious." I said laughing
"They have gone on two dates." Mom said coming in and sitting on the other side of me on the couch
"Do I hear wedding bells?" Will joked earning him an eye roll
"I think Im going to bed so I can help mom tomorrow." I said standing up and going upstairs
A few minutes later I felt my bed sink in and an arm pull me closer
"Ive missed you." Will said as I finally fell peacefully asleep for the first time in a month and a half.

So much inspiration I have for this story. Maybe its because its fall and my favorite season but some good chapters are going to be coming out. Thanks for reading and stay tuned. 😊
