Chapter 23

We sat there for a couple of hours making small talk when she woke up again.
"JJ." She said looking over at me
"Yeah little one." I said smiling at her
"Im sorry." She said getting emotional
"Hey, its fine." I said holding on to her hand
"I need to tell mom still." She said with her eyes watering
"Do you want me to?" I asked and she nodded yes
"Um, Shelby came to me last night because she dropped out of school." I said as my moms eyes got big
"The reasons why was because she was failing classes and thinks she was raped." I said as she gripped my hand harder
"Shelby. Baby you could have told me." Mom said getting close and wiping her tears away.
"I dont think I was. I know I was." She finally admitted
"Im going to leave you three alone." Will said sounding uncomfortable and kissing me on the head before leaving
"Who was he?" She asked finally noticing him
"I will tell you after. But you need to tell me what happened. Do you want an investigation?" I asked grabbing a notebook hoping she would do an investigation
"The police already know. Im not the only one that it has happened to by the same person." She sighed
"Jen can push it further." Mom said as I nodded
"No. I dont want it to be a bigger deal." She said
"Shelbs, you said you werent the only one. This guy is considered a rapist and needs to be put in jail." I said trying to push for her to do it.
"Fine. But I dont want you to judge me if I tell the story." She said as I got ready to write her story down
"I was at a party and had a few to much to drink. I took a water bottle to drink before I left the party." She said but I interrupted her
"Did you notice anything weird about opening it?" I asked
"No it opened pretty easy from what I remembered." She said before continuing
"I started to get like really tired and was leaning up against a wall. A guy caught me and said things I couldnt remember." She said starting to remember it all
"Do you know what he looked like?" I asked and she whispered no
"All I remember next is waking up in a bed missing my pants. I went right to the police and told them. A rape test was done and a blood test confirmed the date rape drug was in my system." She said crying
"The police arent doing anything. This wasnt the first time the guy did this to a girl. I didnt tell anyone but the police. It was eating me up and was distracting me from my studies." She said finally breaking down and being pulled into a hug from my mom
"I have you now." She said calming her down
"I will be right back." I said walking into the hall way calling the one person I could trust

"Garcia at your service." She answered
"Hey its JJ." I said
"Where are you cupcake?" She asked worried
"I had a family thing come up. I need you to look something up for me." I said knowing she will
"Go for it. Its been a slow day no case and nothing for me to do." She said making me laugh
"I need you to look up Georgetown police records of sexual assaults from the college." I said as she gasped
"Oh no." She said
"It wasnt me Garcia." I said calming her down
"Was it the cute blonde you have a picture with on your desk?" She asked referring to the picture I have of us from her graduation party
"Yes. Sadly my younger sister was a victim." I said as I heard her type away
"Ok. I have ten reports since the beginning of the semester. When did she start there?" She asked wanting to deepen the number
"She just started her junior year." I said
"Alright so since your sister started there has been forty five reported rapes....." she said before getting silent and continuing "Oh my." She said
"What is it Garcia?" I asked
"Out of those forty five. Twenty of them are from the same person. And I see the name Shelby Jareau on that list." She said
"Thats not what I wanted to hear. But thank you." I said
"What are you going to do?" She asked
"Im mot sure maybe ask Carl in the child unit to take a look." I said unsure of what I can do
"Good luck. Take care of her." She said as we said our goodbyes and I walked back in
"So do I get to know who he is now?" Shelby asked with a slight smile
"My boyfriend." I said smiling
"Well he is cuter than Hunter and has a sexy accent." She said as I rolled my eyes
"Who has a sexy accent?" Will asked as he walked in the room
"You." I said smiling at him and seeing he had three coffees and a gatorade
"Well I didnt think it was that great." He said passing out the coffees to me and mom
"I didnt think you could have coffee so I got you a gatorade. I hope you like yellow." He said smiling and giving it to her
"So JJ's sexy southern gentleman, do you have a name?" She asked making us all laugh
"Will and you are darlin?" He asked and Im pretty sure it made her heart swoon
"Shelby but Im sure you already knew that." She said smiling
"I did." He said winking at her making my heart melt.
"Are you done flirting with my younger sister?" I asked acting offended
"Yes I am." He laughed sitting next to me

A few hours later Shelby fell asleep and my eyes were starting to get heavy. I fell asleep only to be woken up by my mom and Will talking. I kept my eyes closed to listen to their conversation.
