NASH’S POV

“Thanks again Dad” I say as he takes our luggage out of the car trunk.

“No problem. Now remember, this time I won’t be coming with you, so be responsible! Your mother and I trust you enough Nash. You’re older - look after your little brother and sister. Understood?” He instructed.

“So... No ‘I’ll miss you’ or ‘stay safe’? “ I joke.

He opens his arms and pulls me in for a hug.

“Look after Hayes and Lise. Stay safe.” He whispers into my ear then does the same to my brother and sister.

“I’ll miss you guys.” Skylynn confessed as we pulled in for a group hug.

“We’ll miss you too Sky.” I replied as we grabbed our stuff.

"Bye Nash! By Hayes! By Leesie!” Skylynn screamed while we walked through the automatic doors into the air-conditioned building.

.  . .

“Here are your tickets.” She smiled as she passed me three printed American Airlines tickets.

“Your seats are Row 28, Seats J, K, and L. K and L are paired together, while J sits along in the next section, opposite from the other two. Is this correct?” She asks me.

“Uh yeah. Thanks…” I say, walking away from the ticket consultant. These people are too smiley that it’s actually scaring me.

“So what now? We have like an hour and a half.” Ana asked.

“Let’s hit McDonald’s. I’m starving!” Hayes says and runs off with his luggage to line up without even waiting for us.

“Look… I’m sorr-” I was cut off by Lise, as usual.

“You shouldn’t need to be sorry. You’re right, you’re just being you. I’m sorry for snapping at you.” She says and looks at the ground.

“Don’t be. Let’s go get some food.” I reply, and see her smile.

“Are you trying to get me fat for MAGCON?” She joked and patted her flat belly. Even if she tried to gain weight it disappeared or something, or like turned into hair or eyelashes? Look I don’t know, but it just doesn’t go anywhere.

“Yeah right.” I replied.

“Race you?” I quickly spoke, but she caught on and ran ahead of me, laughing the whole time as Hayes played commentator and screamed our status.

“AND ANALISE GRIER WINS, AGAINST NASH THE POTATO!” He says as he grabs her hand and raises it in the air, joined with his; the look on her face was priceless, like she’d just won the Olympics, but I could slowly see her face turning red, and her breathing rapid, but she didn’t even notice. Hayes was too busy telling her a joke or something because she kept on laughing along with him.

That’s how I wanted her to be - happy and enjoying life; like a sixteen year old should. But instead she has to be careful and paranoid about what might happen next because her life twists and turns. But right now I feel like it’s just done a loop-the-loop. Should I have let her come to MAGCON?

Yeah… she needs this. She needs to get her mind off all the seriousness right now, and enjoy herself.

Or is it me that is overreacting? ‘She’s fine Nash, she’s fine’ I keep telling myself. But that’s not the facts; It’s not written in a book. It’s not recorded on a computer. And it’s not what the doctors had said.
