. . .

MATTHEW'S POV

I sat propped on her bed, watching as she refolded every pile of clothes from her suitcase, placing it in the cabinet across the room, completely unaware of my presence.

I smiled and fell back onto the bed, letting a small chuckle fall from my lips, finally earning her attention.

"And what do you suppose is so funny?" She smiled, sitting rightly me, her finger tracing the print on my sweatshirt.

"You are." I cheekily replied, smirking whilst she brought her lips to mine, propping herself on my lap so I sat with my back pressed against the headboard. Deepening the kiss, I wrapped an arm around her waist, the other bringing her leg closer to me, feeling her heartbeat speed up against me.

Pulling away, she pouted and rested her head in the crook of my neck, playing with the stitching at the neck of my jumper while her heavy breathing steadied.

"I really want to tell my brother." She whispered against my shirt after a moment of silence. "About us."

Sighing I tilted her chin up with my thumb and index finger so she faced me, her deep brown eyes anything but dull. They shined, you could see the life and excitement in them. I could see my happiness in the sheer reflection.

"Are you sure that's the greatest idea? I mean, believe me - I'm not ashamed of u-"

"Then what is it?" She sighed, climbing off of me.

"I know he thinks I'm not good enough for you. We all know he'd much rather you and Cam." I mumbled, feeling my face burn up. Why couldn't I be the one for her? Was I not good enough?

"But you are. You're more than enough. This is my life not his, and your my boyfriend - not his." She joked, poking my cheek in attempt to make me smile.

"We're in New York now. Anything is possible." She whispered into my ear, planting her soft lips against my cheek before returning to her luggage, unpacking her stacks of belongings.

. . . Two Days Later . . .

ANALISE'S POV

"We can hang that over here and as he enters the banner can come down, yeah?" I discussed with the planner who was helping me plan the early surprise party for Nash since we would split up before his birthday.

I sat opposite from Cam and Aaron who were busy sucking helium from the balloons they were meant to inflate.

"Do you guys think this will turn out?" I asked, while tying string to the inflated balloon and placing it on a weight.

"Yeah I think so." Cam responded, his voice still distorted.

"You know what happens when guys suck too much helium?" I asked, watching as two boys leaned in closely, they're interest anywhere but here.

"Tell him Aaron." I giggled, watching as he leaned over and whispered in Cam's ear, his eyes bulging out of his head.

"Woah." His chipmunk voice exclaimed before let go of the half inflated balloon in his hand that whizzed through the air making obnoxious noises.

"Yep." I stood up and took the weight full of balloons to the corner where everything was already pre-set.

In the corner of my eye I saw a nervous Matthew jog over to me, leaving Hayes to paint the banner himself.

"Hey Lise." He whispered in my ear, his arms snaking around my waist.

"Matt." I exhaled. "Not now." I muttered, unclasping his grip from me whilst turning around.

"There's a time and a place, and c-certain people Matthe-" I stammered, trying to find the words that just didn't seem to fit.

"You're right. Anything to protect precious Cameron's feelings." He spoke, backing away with his hands raised in mid air as if surrendering.

"Matthew."

"He seems to be keeping a careful watch on you don't you think?" Matthew hissed. Turning my head, I saw as Cam's eyes flickered back to his hands as he engaged in conversation with Aaron absent mindedly.

"How you going guys?" I asked, returning back to the crates we were propped on, watching as they worked in silence, simply nodding.

"So who should we invite? Are you guys bringing anyone along?" I asked, trying to break the tension.

"Yeah, I told Sylvia to come fly in. She's on break now." Aaron smiled to himself, Cameron gently nudging him with his elbow.

"How about you Cam? Anyone special?" I asked, trying to lift his spirits.

After a small pause he nodded, smiling at the floor nervously. "Yeah - um her name's Annie."

I wasn't jealous.

I wasn't angry.

But I was shocked. I was disappointed. Because through the jolt of shock, and draining feeling that seemed to pull out my energy, I felt like crawling up into my bed and hiding under the covers.

A part of me wasn't proud of this, but I felt as if I really wanted to be the girl Cameron was waiting on. The one he fell for, even though I already had Matthew.
