MATTHEW’S POV

“Matt!” Her voice called out from not too far behind me, causing me to quicken my pace. I was just about to run down the fire escape stairs when the elevator ‘bing-ed’, the metal doors sliding open with two teenage girls walking out.

“Hey, aren’t y-” The brunette asked, moving to cross her arms to push her cleavage up to show more from her shirt.

“Mhmm.” Was all I said before rushing past them and mashing the ‘close’ button inside the lift - before Ana, and the fans could follow me. I know how bad that sounds, but I just don’t feel like Ana catching up with me and having a good old Dr. Phil chat to the point where I wish I had never snapped at Carter, and she never followed.

I ran in without thinking, just before the steel doors were pulling shut, with a puffed out Ana standing a few steps outside -  her face white, her hair messed and her breathing staggered. ‘Should I get out? Is she alright?’ I thought to myself, but the doors shut with a ‘clink’ as I left her there slightly leaning over and coughing heavily, with the last sight of her struggling while she coughed, with a light pink face.

Snapping back to reality, I realised I was in an elevator – but in my head it was more like a never escaping metal torture device.

“No… No, no no!” I blabbered out loud, trying to control my fear as I did everything possible to get out of here – I banged on the doors, I tried to pull the doors open manually, I even clawed at it; but it was all too much. I sank to the floor, tears of paranoia streaming out as I clutched my head in pain, flashback of her coming back to me, the nightmare playing itself in my head, with no way to leave.

I looked over at the bright red-lit number telling me what level we were on, but my eyes and mind were playing tricks on me. Through a blurry view from a wall of built up tears, the numbers appeared in no consecutive order, confusing me to the point where I felt like screaming.

ANALISE’S POV

“What was that about?!” I asked as I threw Carter’s arms down in confusion and looked over to an equally puzzled Cameron, pleading with my eyes for some kind of answer; a valid answer. I didn’t want none of this ‘walk off and ignore me’ shit.

“Why don’t you go mind your own damn business.” He spat at me before nudging past Cameron and I, back in the direction of his room. ‘Good, you go do that.’ I frustratedly said to myself as I ran off to follow Matthew. I’d officially had enough of this.

“Ana do yo-”  Cameron asked worriedly, ready to grab his coat and shoes.

“It’s alright Cam. I’ll be back in 5 – but if I’m not, please don’t tell Nash. Make up something.” I told him as I ran off to find Matthew.

I looked to my left and right down the hall ways to spot him.

Found him!’I followed the running blur, down to the direction of the fire escape stairs – If he was trying to get away from me, then that would do it. I’d never be able to get down there and reach him without collapsing. How I wish that was an exaggeration.

“Hey, aren’t you-” Some brunette with barely any clothes on asked Matt. How is she not freezing her fricken fake tits off? It’s like ten degrees out!

I smiled when he rushed past her into the lift, without a real answer.

“Matt wa-” I called out, before the doors could slam shut, but instead of me finishing the word, spluttering ocughs instead arised, making me breathless.

I bent over, and leaned across the wall right across from the closing lift while he stared at me, red and struggling for breath.

“Was he even worth this?” I mumbled once I regained my breath,  taking slow deep breaths until I was steady again.

I pushed aside my own question and continuously banged on the ‘down’ button.  I didn’t think I even knew the answer yet; I didn’t think I even wanted to know.

“C’mon… C’mon.” I chanted quietly, when the lift doors finally opened wide, revealing a distraught Matthew on the floor; he sat againt the back wall, his legs tucked into his chest like a ball while he sat there, his eyes wide while his pale face stayed in a daze.

. . .

It looked weird enough that a teenage girl had to drag a dazed boy off an elevator and through a lobby of sophisticated know-it-alls, but did it stop there? No – because stupid me decides to drag him outisde to the bus stop bench where he could lie down. Across the road, while I stopped traffic at a zebra crossing, and held up a young family with a hella big pram.

“Matt. Matthew!” I repeated as he finally seemed to be regaining a sense of reality – See, I knew a warm lobby wouldn’t of done the trick. He needed freezing temperatures and a girl to continuously slap his face softly to come back to the real world.

“H-How did… I was in an elevator…” He scrunched his eyebrows together as he put together the pieces.

“What happened?” He finally asked with a sigh.

“You owe me.” I replied simply, dodging his question.

“What?” He replied, his face scrunched up with confusion - even more than I thought was possible.

“You owe me. I had to drag your ass out here in the cold while drivers and receptionists gave me dirty looks – So yeah, you owe me.” I explained.

“Wait, wh-”

“I found you in the elevator. You seemed pretty messed up and you weren’t responding or anything – you just sat there, and you were shivering and all pale. What else was I supposed to do?” I explained, rubbing my hands together to get some form of warmth, but without luck.

“Maybe you shouldn’t of taken the pale white guy who was shivering out in the cold.” He joked quietly.

“I heard that.” I replied, giving up on this whole ‘warm up your hands with friction’ thing. If my fingers fell off from frostbite, I’m blaming Matthew.

He softly chuckled at my childish sulking before handing me his jacket and wrapping it around my body.

“You need it more than I do.” I said, shaking it off my body.

“You could at least say ‘thanks’” He joked back as he grabbed it and wrapped it around me like before.

“Thanks.” I replied, earning a small smile from the boy who I will never seem to understand.
