ANALISE’S POV

“Ana.” Cam urged, pulling my attention away from the lightly dusted streets; the layers of snow smooth and soft, where there weren’t any footprints, that it.

“I don’t get it.” I murmered into my knees that sat bundled up into my chest.

“Get what?”

“Everyone seems to know everything before I do. Why does he have to be like this? Why can’t everyone just tell me what’s going on and maybe it will give me a shot to fix it!” I exclaimed into the sleevs of my shirt, my face hidden in the light material that did nothing against the light chill spreading through the air.

“Everyone?” Cam cocked an eyebrow, looking at me puzzled.

“I- I mean the doctors.” I responded, but it seemed as if I was reassuring myself.

“Hey, hey don’t worry – everything wil be okay. Look we’re almost there.” Cameron cooed into my ear, tracing soft paterns on my back, his touch barely there.

“I just want to know what’s worth the secrecy.” I whispered to myself, resting my head on the cold window as I listened to my breathing – I hadn’t notice how far the struggle was with each inhale; almost shaky like it was going to fall apart before I could take it.

“Look’s like we’re about to find out.” Cameron spoke in a single breath, his gaze steady out the window. “Stop here, please.” He ordered as I leaned further, finally catching a glimpse of the walking figure dressed in a black hoodie and some jeans.

“Cam that could be anyo-”

“We’re in the middle of the road.” The driver interrupted, grumbling incomprehensible words through the screen that separated the passengers from him.

“So pull over!” Cameron exclaimed, cursing words under his breath along the lines of ‘stupid drivers’.

“What are we doing? Anderson’s is two miles from here!” I whisper-shouted, watching as Cam quinted his eyes further, watching as someone in the distance turned a corner.

“Tell me that is not your brother wearing his own merchandise out in public.” Cameron chuckled, tilting my head so I could read the ‘Property of Nash Grier’ printed boldy on his hoodie.

“Oh my god - he’d be the only one to do something like that.” I laughed, covering my hand with my palm before looking expectantly to Cam.

“Talk about self-promotion…”

“Come on!” I pulled him along hastily, not even realising my tightly wound hand around his own before he called out, my foot hovering just centimetres from the thinly layered snowy streets.

“Ana stop – look.” He burst out in a breathy voice, pulling me back into the vehicle as I landed in his arms, taking in a sharp breath from the sudden movement.

“Are you leaving or staying?” The driver groaned from the front seat. With a sigh, Cameron slid open the divider, peaking his head into the driver’s area.

“Will you shut the fuck up?!”

Stifling my giggles from his outburst, I watched as the driver shut the compartment with a quick whoosh, and not before glaring at the now fuming Cameron. His hair wa smessed up from fingering through it so much, and his cheeks were simmering down from a bright red tone.

“Now that’s done,” He chuckled lightly, staring down at me before continuing, “I think we’ve just found our Anderson’s.” He grinned, pointing towards the small café wedged tightly between a book shop and run down souvenir spot; barely noticeable – even in broad daylight.

“But we’re looking for Anderson’s clinic.”

“You can never be sure with your brother’s handwriti- wait…” His deep brown eyes suddenly widening, the puzzled look plastered on his face clearly visible in the reflection of the window.

“What?,” I asked, without answer from Cam, “Cameron, what are you looking at?”

“Duck down now.” His firm arm tense in front of my stomach as he slumped further down the seat, his eyes jerking back and forth from the window to the back of our driver’s seat, who might I add, snore’s were emmiting loudly from his chapped lips by this point.

“You’re scaring me-”

“He’s coming, what are you doing?” Cameron hissed from his awkward contorted position on the leather seat, his hand missing my wrist, giving me time to sit upright and lean gainst the window, taking in everything he saw.

“Analise, don’t – you’re not going to listen to me anyways…” He muttered under his breath, sighing once I clammered hastily over him and ran out of the car, letting the cold rush up against me and ripple against the thin material of my thin sweater as I ran.

“What are you doing?!” I exclaimed, grabbing hold of Nash’s shoulder, watching as his gaze wandered anywhere but back at me.

“Hmm? What are you doing? I-” I urged, shoving him back with enough force to make him stumble back.

“Analise, don’t - not now.” He gritted through his teeth, clearly trying to keep his composure as he ruffled his hair in frustration.

“I don’t get it! Why can’t anyone tell me what’s happeni-“ I paused mid sentence, my focus on the familiar figure hopping into the car down the road; her eyes focused on the two of us before rolling up the lightly tinted glass pane.

“Mom? MOM!” I exclaimed as I made my way over to her, my pace quickening until I was sprinting. “Mom, i-it’s me! lt’s Ana!” I cried out, surprisingly letting the tears fall freely down my cheeks as I banged on her window with my palm, feeling the glass vibrate beneath my touch until a pair of sturdy hands ppulled me away, and the car pulled into motion leaving behind a trail of light smoke and tyre tracks in the dusted road.

“What’s happening Nash, huh? I have the right to know – this is my body, you are my brother, that is my mother a-and she didn’t even look at me!” I with-held the sob that ended up a hoarse and dry cry.

“I said not now.” He grumbled, pushing past me without another look.

“You’re gonna walk away just like that, and never answer me? When Nash? When? – When I’m dead, when there’s no more time for me to understand because that’s what it f-”

“Because that’s what’s happening Analise!” He huffed, his hands flying through the air as he spoke, “Nothing more, nothing less – you are dying.”
