Song for the chapter:

“Check Yes Juliet” – We The Kings

. . .

MATTHEW’S POV

“Matt – hey!” She stammered while Cameron looked down at her and flashed me and awkward smile; he better hide his little grin before I punch his teeth out.

“Oh hi.” I quickly greeted, keeping a steady gaze at the ground as my hands fumbled nervously in the sleeves of my sweater.

“So…” I piped up, looking for someway to get out of this situation; it was like the world was telling me ‘Haha! You’ve got no chance with her!’

“Shut up.” I grumbled under my breath, immeddiately feeling my cheeks flush as I realised I had said that out loud.

Great, now I was friendzoned, and talking to myself.

“Did you say s-” He began, looking at me with a smirk clear on his face.

“Where are you guys headed?” I asked, not really curious to know, but more along the lines of taking the attention away from the fact that I talk to myself – like a true weirdo.

“Oh we’r-”

“We’re heading out on a date – right about now actually.” Cameron chuckled as he interrupted Ana, slowly sliding his hand from her arm down to her palm, entertwining their fingers together as he swung them by their side with a huge smile playing on his lips.

“Oh.” Was all I could say as I regained myself, ‘unbulging’ my eyes and shutting my mouth that was unknowingly hanging open.

Looking over to her in disbelief, her eyes twinkled with guilt as she gave a small smile.

“Well I wouldn’t want to keep you guys waiting.” I gritted through my teeth as I felt myself unconsiously digging my nails into my hand.

“Yeah – we’ll see you later.” Cameron greeted with the fakest smile I’d ever seen as moved his hand yet again, slididng it around her waist – automatically pulling Lise closer to him than thought possible – as he held on and made their way over to the elevator like the true fricken gentleman he is.

ANALISE’S POV

I wiggled uncomfortably from Cam’s side when we stepped into the lift, looking at him in disbelief.

“What was that?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

“What was wh-

“You know perfectly well what I mean.” I began, crossing my arms over my chest. “I’m not a show dog that you show off Cameron!”

“Do you have to prove anything to him? Do you have to prove that you got me, and he didn’t?” I ranted, my breath hitching once I realised what I had just said.

“I don’t know.” He muttered quietly, looking to the ground. “I-I just wanted him to know that you’re with me.”  He continued, reaching out for my cheek.

‘No fucking way was that going to happen.’ I thought to myself as I swatted his hand away.

“Cam! He’s my best friend - he’s allowed to talk to me, he’s allowed to hang out with me, he’s allowed to hug me.” I listed as I defended Matt, straightening my hair back in frustration.

“And you go along saying he’s your best friend and you let him look at you like that?” Cameron exclaimed inching towards me.

“Like what?!”

“Would you let him ever upset you?”

“I wouldn’t let him talk to me like this – that’s for sure!”

“Would you let him kiss you?!” He shouted, making me jump just as I realised there was no more distance that I could put between us; my back was pressed against the cold lift wall as he stared down at me breathing heavily, his face a light shade of pink.

“Cam-”

Running his hand through his hair he looked down at me, his breathing steadying itself.

“Would you?”

But before anything could come out, he cupped my cheeks with both hands, pressing his soft lips onto mine as he moved them together in a swift movement.

But I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing – compared to Matthew, that is. It’s wrong to compare, I know, but I couldn’t help but realise that the fireworks didn’t play over in my head, my arms didn’t line up with goosebumps at his touch, my stomach didn’t churn feeling  like a hundred fucking butterflies were erupting.

Nothing.

Except for his wet lips.

But other than that…

Finally realising what was actually going on, I reached up and shoved my hands against his muscular chest, harshly pushing him away from me as I caught my breath, taking the time to process everything.

“Cameron , this-”

“I-I…”

Looking up at him, I saw him still pinkish, his hand cupping his mouth as he took a few steps away from me, hitting his back against the opposite white wall of the lifts.

“I-I didn’t mean… Oh my God Analise just - ”

“I think we should just press rewind.” I stated firmly before pressing my lips shut.

“That would be nice.” He half-spoke to himself as he rubbed the back of his head, still not looking me in the eye.

“We clearly weren’t ourselves.” I laughed awkwardly, trying to make excuses for how we had both acted.

“Yeah – Um… this never happened, yeah?” He asked sheepishly with a small smile.

“Agreed.” I smiled back as the elevator dinged!, the metal doors following through and sliding open, revealing the lobby.

We walked out side through the lobby of snobs before we came to a halt, with Cameron holding me back with his arm just in front of the door.

“Hi – I’m Cameron.” He introduced, holding out his hand.

“Hi – I’m Ana?” I giggled as I took my hand in his, only later realising that it was a literal ‘rewind’.

“Will you go on a date with me… Like right now?” He asked, still holding tighty to my hand.

“That’s be cool – as long as we don’t kiss on this first date.” I replied with a smirk, watching him redden as the words came out.

“Let’s go!” He called out, dragging me along with him out of the building, into the cold as passersbys looked at us strangely, probably trying to think of what two teenagers are doing running out of a fancy hotel, out onto the street hand in hand.
