My Other Half

It is clear that I must find my other half.

I waited longer than most for my soulmate tattoo to appear. Finally, on the day I joined the mafia, I woke up to find a tattoo on my wrist. It was a yellow shape instead of a name though. I couldn't make sense of it, so I showed it to my mother at breakfast.

"That's odd, it must represent your soulmate."

"It's supposed to be their name, why am I the freak who gets a cryptic clue instead?" I sighed.

"Don't say why me, say try me. You just have to solve it so you don't lose your person. It looks like hair or a wig. So you find someone with golden hair and there you go."

"Right, I'll keep an eye out for fucking goldilocks today." I said sarcastically.

"Oh don't be such a cynic, just go find them. You'll meet them today, it's not so hard. Good luck, and good luck with your new job. Make me proud."

"Sure thing, thanks." I replied.

My family were all gangsters, so it was perfectly normal for my mother to wish me luck at the mafia.

Anyway, I found my goldilocks right away, the blue eyed blonde beauty known as Mello. He was the head of the mafia and he was a crazy bastard, but I fucking loved him.

He wasn't easy to get though. He evaded all my attempts to be friendly. He was there for work and nothing else. He wasn't interested in my tattoo, claiming that puzzles were for losers like that big-headed twit he was up against in trying to solve the Kira case. I'm not sure if the irony there escaped him.

I decided to play it cool and hold back, and in return he began to mellow out a little. Just as I thought we might be getting somewhere, he decided to blow the goddamn building up. Without warning any of us, and while we were all still inside. It was during a police raid and most of our members got killed but I survived and searched in the rubble until I found him.

I looked at him through the blood in my eyes. He had blood on his face, making him hard to recognise yet somehow he was familar as ever. I could see the pain in his eyes and I was sure I could feel the pain in his soul. The same pain deep in mine.

"Mello, I love y-"

I was interrupted by a red headed guy who swooped in and lifted Mello up into his arms.

"Matt, you came." Mello said.

"Of course I came. I'd never abandon you, I love you, Mello."

He kissed Mello's lips and then carried him away.

"Oh...I'm alone again. " I said aloud. I looked at my wrist and the tattoo was gone.

"Well then," I thought. "I guess I don't have a soulmate."
